This is becoming very annoying. Yesterday, ALL my toolbars and Icons disappeared . I tried just a restart of both browser and system, but that did not work. I tried what was suggested in these articles:
I use the Built in Windows Firewall, Avast, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and Peerblock. I have used these for...well, forever. Never had any issues with these before. This all seem to start around FF 16 or so. Can't really remember. FF seemed to update every couple of weeks. And often (till now) if I restarted FF, the toolbars would come back.
Although I will say this. I did try a couple of weeks ago to perhaps go to a different Firewall. Just was doing some testing. I installing/uninstalling these:
Online Armor - It was OK, but seemed to slow down browsing
Comondo - Which really screwed up, kept on asking for authorizations of software, but the program would beep, then suddenly a window would slide in [the permission window] and disappeared just as quickly. It never gave me a chance to look at was happening. So AWAY it went.
Also, I should point out that I uninstall software using UR Software's Your Uninstaller Pro!. And after that I use cCleaner to remove anything that may be left over (Only reg keys directly linked to the product). Could there still be remnants of these firewall programs left on? After all the Uninstall software I use, I don't see how.
As for booting into Safe W/Networking I will give it a try. I'll keep you all updated. And on side not, Thank You.
I truly appreciate help with this. Kind of driving me insane.
Since your suggestions, I did try to enter safe W/Networking. Approximately every 1 out of 5 starts, FF would loose it's toolbars.
However, when you mention "Firewalls", I began to look for specific "Uninstall Tools" for each of them. I could not find one for Online Armor, but I did find a .bat file for removing remnants of Comondo, which I have run.
I also found some articles regarding issues with Flash, and how it was causing FF to crash or to start wrong. So while I was at it I edited the mms.cfg file to include ProtectedMode=0
Again not sure if any of this helped, but I have had a couple of good starts (while not in safe), with the toolbars working as they should. Now, I could see how Comondo may have messed up the start of FF, but I am not really sure if this is what happened. But if this was the case I sure want to make sure that Online Armor is completely off too. But short of a reinstall/uninstall, I don't see how I can do that.
