Using Firefox 18.0 (just downloaded & installed new version)
Trying to import bookmarks from IE8 (on old Windows XP box)
Go through steps to import ... but get nothing. (lots of bookmarks in IE)
Tried exporting from IE8 to HTML file...
Exports fine, HTML looks good... (lots of bookmarks in HTML file)
Use import from HTML... but get nothing
Tried re-installing Firefox, same results as above.
Try starting FF in safemode, then try the import to see if it's an addon/extension causing the issue.
Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode"To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
I don't know the solution to this problem, but I do know of a workaround...
1. First, open Internet Explorer.
2. Open the File Menu
3. Choose "Import/Export"
4. Choose "Export to a file" and click on Next
5. Choose "Favorites" and click on Next
6. On the next popup window, click on Next.
This will save a bookmarks.html file in your Documents Folder.
Now you need to IMPORT it into Firefox.
1. Open Firefox
2. Click on Bookmarks
3. Choose "Show All Bookmarks"
4. Click on "Import and Backup"
5. Choose "Import Bookmarks from HTML"
6. Find the bookmarks.html and click on "Save".
You should now have all of your bookmarks in Firefox.
