Firefox 17.01 gives blurred text (address bar, tabs, and on-screen) - fix or go back to v16 ?

One of the many, many things we (3 of us in this office) particularly don't like about Microsoft is the so called "Clear Text" which actually makes text blurred.

You seem to have made Firefox so that it ignores our Win7 settings. ie. Firefox 17 forces us to have blurred text.

I saw someone else has complained about this but I couldn't understand the answer.

If this can actually be resolved then would it be possible to give me a step by step guide or would it be easier for us to go back to the previous version of Firefox?

Try to set the gfx.content.azure.enabled pref to false or if this didn't help disable Direct2D by setting the gfx.direct2d.disabled pref to true on the about:config page and leave hardware acceleration otherwise enabled.

I said this: I saw someone else has complained about this but I couldn't understand the answer.

And you said this:

Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key to open the about:config page, just like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.

  • If you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
  • use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
  • preferences that have been modified and do not have the default value show as bold (user set)
  • preferences that are user set (bold) can be reset to the default value via the right-click context menu
  • preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref
  • preferences can be created via the right-click context menu: New -> String, Integer, Boolean
