I added a link to Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues based on a discussion in this thread:

If what we're concerned about is trying to get better information from people when they are asking questions we should probably link this on the Get community support page and in the AAQ flow next to the instructions, "Copy and paste the information from Help > Troubleshooting Information."

My October 22, 2012 revision was still pending review so I approved it today and marked it ready to localize.

I wonder if the MozillaZine forums link should have some simple mention that it is a independent forum by the link. Occasionally there have been users who went to mozillaZine forums by way of this page and thought it was the Mozilla forum or still a Mozilla run forum.

For example

There is a discussion started in the contribs forum

I am not sure if the discussion will continue there as important to the wider community, or asa new discussion in the KB forum. Whatever happens this article is likely to be changed so starting this thread.

Open Badges is now listed at support.mozilla.org as a supported product. Related bug:

The Open Badges product page, /products/open-badges links to this article and there's a revision pending to add Open Badges to the list of products that you can ask a question about. Only thing, there's no AAQ forum set up yet for Open Badges. I asked about this in the bug report.

See also Bug 979607 asking for a Thunderbird-centric "Get community support" page.

Also Rachel & Roland's etherpad https://sumo.etherpad.mozilla.org/377

I would predict the separate fora will rapidly diverge. The Thunderbird section having different procedures and guidelines for

Forum activity
Escalation
& Moderation

The same will likely then happen with each new product added. I am sure it would have made more sense to try to agree all these for Firefox then have a working model and be able to modify that slightly for the new products.

This is going to get messy complicated and lead to confusion.

I renamed the "Frequently Asked" link to "Recently solved" based on the discussion in /forums/contributors/710145. I also updated the link for the new All Products forum (bug 984435)

I deferred the pending revision to add Open Badges to the list of products that you can ask a question about, since an Open Badges AAQ forum hasn't been set up. Since then, Joni has replied in the related bug and has asked for information from Kadir on how to remove this article from the Open Badges product page. See comments 24-25 in bug 941650.

Approved, ready to localize, it is important because the current link redirect to Support Forum - one forum per product page.

thanks Alice

(For the record) This article is no longer linked from the Open Badges product page. Ref:

  • Bug 999633 - Remove community support forum link from Open Badges page

Ricky Rosario fixed this with the fix to bug 994097.

The June 27, 2014 edit proposes removing the "Ask a question" image so we wouldn't have to localize it for other languages.

When localizing an article, you're free to skip the screenshot and use text instead, so I'm not sure that we need to make this change to the original article. I personally think having the image is helpful, but I'll let our support forum contributors decide whether or not the image should stay.

I agree to keep the image.

For the record, the revision to remove the Ask a question" image was approved by another reviewer:

Comment: Removed "Ask a question" image so it does not have to be translated (more easy to translate a link text) and changed the order og Webmaker and Thunderbird to match the /en-US/questions/new page

I made a new revision to change the "Ask a question" link into a button, on its own line like it was before the last edit, to make it stand out more.

thanks ...

In the paragraph before the note and "Ask a question" button, this article says,

You will be taken through a series of pages that determine the product and topic of your question, ...

This will no longer be true when the AAQ steps are are included in a single page. I made a new revision to change "pages" to steps" to account for this change but I left it pending review.

Thunderbird has started taking almost a minute to send mail independant of the size of what I am sending. I recently upgraded to Win 10 so that may be the problem. I have reduced the size (delete and compact) of all my stored files so that should not be the delay. I tried reloading V38.3.0. Didn't help

Michal Stanke (Mozilla.cz) [:MikkCZ] 2015-12-09 10:22:59 PST

After Focus has been added to the main page grid, there is one single and lonely tile on the third row, but Firefox OS might be cleaned, it's not going to be supported anymore.

Focus by Firefox is now one of the AAQ choices at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new and, when you go to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/focus-firefox there's already a link to this article.

I set up a "Needs change" entry based on the above.

I have a pending edit to add Focus by Firefox to the list of supported products.

Do we have a specific version that Firefox OS it's not going to be supported anymore ?

Done, i leave active the "... and remove Firefox OS? (see discussion)" in Needs change entry.

Thanks. I also added "Focus by Firefox" to the article Description under "Relevant to:" and I changed the "Needs change:" entry to "remove Firefox OS? (see discussion)".

About Firefox OS: I added myself to the CC list for Bug 1231450 - Remove Firefox OS from the main page grid. Until Firefox OS is removed from Mozilla Support I think we should keep it in this article.

P.S. I deleted "remove Firefox OS?" from the thread title and the "Need changes" entry. There has been no official word about Firefox OS being dropped from Mozilla Support. Michal Stanke is not a Mozilla employee according to his Mozillians page, https://mozillians.org/en-US/u/Mikk/ and his SUMO profile page, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/Mikk

I'll mark my last revision as ready to localize

This is an aesthetic argument to drop support for a lot users.
We aren't dropping support for Firefox OS yet on Sumo.

As much as I love Eudora I'm having serious certificate problems - probably due to Yahoo Mail. I'd like to start with Thunderbird. I downloaded version 3.61 and it does have an important from Eudora feature. However, when I do this I get the following message from TB: "Sending of message failed. Unable to open the temporary file C:\Users\Eric\AppData\Local\Temp\nsemail-6.eml. Check your 'Temporary Directory' setting."

I have cleared every attribute from the Temp directory (Users and all subfolders also) and keep getting the same msg. It would be a tremendous help to get this to work. I've got years of data on Eudora. Thanks Eric

Hello Eric,

sorry but this forum is not the place for getting help with thunderbird. In this area contributors discuss for that specific article("Get community support" article). :-)

Please ask again your question in the support forum. See :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/thunderbird

thank you :-)

I see from checking the links in your profile that you already asked a question in the support forum:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1099806 Migrate Eurdora to Thunderbird 3.61 snag

You should post any additional information in your original support forum thread, not here or in a new thread.

I have lost both my Send and Edit bars from the Write and Reply screens. No amount of right-clicking will allow me to restore them. If anyone can tell me how to do this without deleting and then installing the latest version of Thunderbird I would be more than grateful.

It would be most helpful if a reply could be sent to fp@metalplaques.co.uk

Thanks

The Firefox icon was being shown even though this article is meant for other products such as Thunderbird. Since this can be confusing, I removed all products from the article Description "Relevant To:" section and changed the product to Contributors.

This came up in the KB articles forum: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/knowledge-base-articles/710936?&page=2#post-71292

The Get community support article, found on product pages such as https://support.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird and /products/firefox, links to MozillaZine under "Additional resources".

I had looked at that page when clicking on "get community support" for Thunderbird. But since the link was below the fold on a web page with a large Firefox icon, and it changed the product to "Firefox for IOS" I never noticed it. Perhaps the page could be made more generic by not changing the selected product, and using the currently selected products icon?

I edited the description to remove all products from "Relevant to " and added "Contributors". That's the best I could do, since at least one product is needed. When all products are selected, the Firefox icon is shown.

I moved this article out of the Documents Archive and into the Contributor Knowledge Base because of Bug 1339484 - Freemarker errors for Showfor section of many KB articles.  I then published an updated revision.
