I fix this problem. I uninstalled Adobe Reader X and installed Adobe Reader 9.4.

A few questions:

  1. Are you downloading a PDF and then trying to view it or are you trying to view it in Firefox?
  2. Do you have links to pages/PDFs where you see this problem?
  3. If you completely uninstall Adobe Reader X and reinstall it, does it go away? (I have a few reports of it being a bad update)

We have a few people here at Mozilla who are trying to figure out this problem but we can't seem to reproduce it with a set up similar to yours. More information would be really helpful!

Thanks.

Could what is on this forum thread help you?

In answer to Cww:

I have not uninstalled and reinstalled yet. I am visiting https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/public/diagnostics/Acro_Test.pdf and wanting to view it in a web page.

I have this problem too.

I have Firefox 3.6.15 (Yahoo Edition 1.7) and Adobe Reader X on Windows XP.

The URL https://www.cerritoscenter.com/_downloads/lyric.pdf won't show up in the Firefox browser, but it shows up in the Google Chrome browser just fine.

Therefore, the problem is with the Firefox browser not being able to handle Adobe Reader X.

Since so many people have this problem and it has been going on for so long, it seems like the developers at Mozilla couldn't care a less about us, or they can't fix it.

What is your opinion?

Some says that the solution is disabling 'Enable protected mode startup' check in Reader X 's preference menu. But I think the better solution is to execute 'Select Default PDF Handler' in the menu, and choose Reader X for it. I solved the problem in this way.

Maybe the cause of problem is the PDF Handler for previous version of Reader that remains in browser plugin settings.

Hi, I had the same problem. The following process fixed it: Reset download actions

  1.
     Open your profile folder:

         * (Firefox 3.6):
              1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
              2. Under Application Basics, click on Open Containing FolderShow in Finder. A window with your profile filesfolder will open.
