How do I shrink the navigation bar's "window" (huge) and expand the web-site location window (so tiny I cannot read the web-site locations)?

The top line of my tool-bar has the back/forward arrows, then the reload "circular arrow", then a huge (in length) search engine window, then the "home" icon; that's all. The second line has a small (1 inch long) window for the web-site addresses (so small that I usually only get the first few letters of the web-site), then several of my most used book-marks across the rest of the line. All I want to do is make the search window smaller and the web-site window larger so I can actually read and copy and paste what is in the latter.
