I am running Firefox 4 with W XP and have had no problems until today when it eats up all my memory and I can't do anything and not connected to the internet. Why? How do i fix it?

Been running Firefox 4 on Windows XP for several weeks. No problem until today when it eats up all my memory (max 750mb) and I can't do anything for several hours. Disconnected from internet by unplugging cable and still have same problem (100%CPU usage). Finally disconnected power. Rebooted, restored, and same problem. Disconnected again and rebooted without restoring. Why does it do this? How do I fix it?
