Remembering history after "never remember history"
We thought this is simple. But it looks like we need to have words explained to us. Setting firefox to never remember history makes it produce some claims that it looks like it developers aren't really aware of the meaning of. Setting it to "Never remember history" makes it automatically check "Clear cookies and site data every time you close Firefox" and "Based on your history settings, Firefox deletes cookies and site data from your session when you close the browser.". After having done that firefox forces a restart. We use it a little bit and close it again. Then open it up and re-enable "Remember history". It will force another restart, and then suddenly remember all the things it was told not to remember. Like automatically relogging into google for you, opening tabs, and things like that.
So. Can someone explain to us the meaning of the words "forget", "never", "history", "clear", "cookies and site data", "every time", "close firefox", "deletes", "close the browser". We thought it couldn't be more obvious that what the user intends with these settings is for you to delete the user data. Like you claim you do. And then you wonder why people say firefox is bought and payed for by google. If anyone of you can find the time to take your tongues out of google long enough to define these words for us we would forever be thankful. Can please someone please teach us please english please?

GPT5: Short answer: Yes—Firefox's "Never remember history" prevents future saving but can leave already‑saved session and places files; you must remove those files (or let Firefox overwrite them) to erase past data. Follow these exact steps to fully wipe and stop future saving:
In Firefox: Privacy & Security → History: choose "Never remember history" (or check "Always use private browsing mode").
Quit Firefox completely.
Open your profile folder: about:support → "Open Folder".
Delete or move these files/folders (they store past sessions/history):
sessionstore.jsonlz4 and the sessionstore-backups folder (recovery.jsonlz4, previous.jsonlz4, etc.)
places.sqlite (and -shm, -wal)
cookies.sqlite
formhistory.sqlite
webappsstore.sqlite
cache2 folder
Restart Firefox. Confirm no tabs reopen and history is empty.
Why this happens (brief): session restore and history use separate files; switching to "never remember" stops future writes but doesn't automatically purge existing files. Deleting those files removes the saved data. If you want, tell me your OS and I’ll give exact profile path and filenames.
Again, please. Please teach us please the meaning please of words please again please.
