Some functions in familysearch.org fail in a Firefox tab but not in an Edge tab.

Why do a number of familiar functions in familysearch.org in a tab in Firefox in Windows 10 in a laptop computer fail in the last few weeks with the message: Oops, something went wrong. Please refresh the page. topped by a triangle with an exclamation point inside? Question 1.

Is this message generated by Firefox? Question 2.

Could this failure be caused by a timing out of some impatient wait loop? Question 3.

When I start familysearch.org in a tab in the Edge browser all these familiar functions work. I have noticed that my whole system seems to be running slower in the last few months. I have been running familysearch.org in a tab in Firefox for years without this failure. Refreshing the page as advised by the message never works to accomplish the function. The functions in familysearch are Details for a person, Sources for a person, or the Tree for a person. There were even cases a week or more ago when the Details for a person were visible only down to the display of family where the error message would appear in place of the family information without affecting the earlier data.

Hi

1: Why is this happening now? Maybe corrupted "Cache" or "Cookies" specific to FamilySearch within Firefox. Another possibility is a recent Firefox extension update.

2: Is this message generated by Firefox? No. message with the warning triangle is an internal FamilySearch error message.

3: Could this be a timeout issue? Yes. You mentioned your whole system feels slower lately. If your system is lagging, Firefox might be struggling to execute the JavaScript quickly enough.

So i suggest

1. Clear Cache for FamilySearch specifically: While on the FamilySearch tab in Firefox, click the Padlock icon to the left of the URL. Select Clear cookies and site data... and click Remove. Restart Firefox and log back in.

2. Try Troubleshoot Mode: Click the Menu in Firefox > Help > Troubleshoot Mode. If the site works perfectly here, is one of your extensions.

3. Check Firefox Hardware Acceleration Since your system is running slow, go to Firefox Settings > search for "Performance." Uncheck "Use recommended performance settings" and try toggling "Use hardware acceleration when available" off. Sometimes this helps.

I only had to Clear Cache for FamilySearch (your first suggestion) and restart the computer and Firefox and reload the FamilySearch tab to apparently solve the problem. Thanks! (By the way, the "icon to the left of the URL" in Firefox is not a padlock, but a shield with a check mark inside it.)
