I changed my password in AOL to increase the security. So I had to install the AOL account again in Thunderbird.

If 'install again' means you deleted the existing account in Thunderbird, and then re-created it, then this was completely unnecessary.

I created an app password in AOL and put it in Thunderbird.

AOL uses OAuth2 authentication. With that you don't need an app password. You'll have to use your main AOL account password.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry - with AOL main login password it also does not work. AOL insists on telling "something went wrong" - try from another device (german: Gerät). I use Thunderbird 140.5.0esr (64-Bit) with win 10 (PC) or win 11 (tablet).

If so, please explain in detail what you're doing when attempting to re-create the account.

On WIN 11 PC's I could login to AOL. Everythin is fine. With the WIN 10 computers not. Procedure: I open Thunderbird. Then automatically opens the AOL login window with the email address. Next I put in the AOL password. Then process stops telling that "something went wrong. We could not register you. Try from another device" Original German message: "Etwas ist schiefgelaufen Wir konnten Sie nicht anmelden. Versuchen Sie es von einem anderen Gerät aus erneut." Like I said: Mailspring works on the Computer and I also can log in to AOL directly. So there has to be something wrong among AOL an Thunderbird. I concernes 2 accounts.
