"Custom" Print Option No Longer Works

FF has been my default for decades primarily because of superior print options. I use Custom Print option to print out pages in larger front, but this no longer seems to work in 92.01. At say 115 custom I lose text to right and bottom of page (both in preview and print to PDF).

94.01 partially resolves problem. It restores custom scaling greater than 100% but fails to restore page numbering.which doesn't reappear until shrink to fit (100%).

The preview doesn't accurately reflect the printout; you should have normal footers on the printout in Firefox 94.

This problem occurs when you switch from "Fit to page width" to "Scale: 115"?

Some sites have a fixed width layout that is designed for the screen and not for paper. When you zoom them to 115% for printing, or sometimes even when you keep them at 100%, they get cut off on the right side because the page's style rules do not allow the content to "wrap" to fit in the space available.

But this site wrapped in earlier versions of Firefox, the problem just started in 92.0.1?

Yes, there is some connection with "shrink to fit" since I had no problem with scaling prior to this option appearing. I've played with changing margins but this did not help. Scaling works fine in Chrome, Opera and Edge (but they have no options for page numbering without URL). So it looks like I won't be printing anything out with FF until this problem is addressed in new update.

Firefox is always either using shrink to fit or scaling to your specified percentage; there isn't a third way. But your comment implies that you might have been using a different method for modifying the text size. What method were/are you using?

Also, does this affect all sites, or can you give an example of a page that has this problem now that didn't have it before?

Forgot to add that this happened once before when FF played with print options. In that case, a user provided information on how to restore previous print options by changing "print.tab_modal.enabled" to "false." Unfortunately that solution didn't work with most recent change.

What is this "Custom Print option" -- where do you set it?

Hmm, I see the problem. It's reminiscent of a bug from Firefox 90.0 that was fixed in Firefox 90.0.2 (release notes). At least shrink-to-fit seems to still work this time.

Back then, I posted a hacky workaround for modifying the content size, in case you or anyone reading needs it: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1343808#answer-1427945

Never mind on the workaround, doesn't work anymore.

Thanks for your efforts.  I did see reference to a 90.0.2 and tried installing that update.  Near disaster.  Saved profile, then downloaded update.  Gone were my settings, toolbar, speed dial, bookmarks, cache and, most important, my passwords. With difficulty, managed to locate profile but my efforts to reinstall it all failed.  Wasted several hours -- finally tried resorting to restoring from week old point.  Surprised to find that that actually worked.  Currently updated to 92.0.  Scaling still not working, so not convinced that FF has resolved problem.

Did look through your earlier postings. Hope FF will recognize and solve the problem.  If I wind up trying your workaround, will be sure to try on a second version of FF.

Sorry, I did not mean to suggest that you should roll back to an old version. I never suggest that due to security reasons.

If that ever happens again, install the new version again, start it, then open about:profiles, find your normal profile, and click "Set as Default Profile" for it, then restart Firefox to get back to those settings.

No I had found that reference to 90.0.2 on my own and fault was entirely mine. Did use "about:profiles" to find location of profile and did try to "set as default profile" but must have messed up in some unknown way since it didn't work. Thanks again for responses.

There is a fix for the scaling bug in testing now in Firefox "Nightly" (future Firefox 95). There's a very good chance it will move up to Firefox 94, which is expected to release on Nov. 2.

Great news. Had thought about trying to reinstall 93. Will wait for 94 on Nov. 2nd. Reassuring that FF is aware of problem. Thanks again for your help.

94.01 partially resolves problem. It restores custom scaling greater than 100% but fails to restore page numbering.which doesn't reappear until shrink to fit (100%). Firefox print options used to be better than Chrome's, now equivalent (although no numbers to be a better option than Chrome's footer with page numbering).

Thanks. I had tried increasing bottom margin but that didn't help. But can confirm that page numbers are indeed printing out even though they do not appear in page preview. Problem resolved in 94.
