I set up this account on Thunderbird (surprisingly) easily about 6 months ago and everything was working fine. Not a hitch.

Suddenly, I opened Thunderbird and it asked me to enter me password, which I did. It failed. I tried again. Then about 10 more times. I changed my password directly through my account settings via the browser and then tried the new one back on Thunderbird. Failed.

That’s all it says. Password for [username@email.com] failed.

I’m pulling my hair out. I tried deleting the account from Thunderbird and setting it up anew, and hit the same problem. I can’t understand why this would just happen out of the blue.

Please and thank you for any help. I’m really going insane, as I am constantly having to download files from my email and it has become extra cumbersome going through the web browser. Thank you again!!!

Thank you for sending me back to the troubleshooting page as though hadn't tried that. It's impossible to interpret your response as anything but smug.

I have checked and re-checked all of the settings, changed all of my passwords with the host and on Thunderbird, erased saved passwords, deleted and reinstalled Thunderbird on my system, checked for all software updates, reviewed firewall settings, and done it all over again about 15 times. I keep getting the same error.

I understand that to experts this may seem like a basic problem, but I am not 11. I have gone through every obvious troubleshooting step and tried desperately to find alternative answers online before posting this question and I don't think it was reasonable or productive for you to simply post a link to the most obvious page.

Then why didn't you tell that in your OP?
