How do I prevent having to enter my email address and password each time that I go to Yahoo Mail?

Each time I sign in to see my mail, I click "Stay signed in," however I am required to enter my email address and password each time I try to open my mail. I just downloaded Firefox and I am thinking I may have clicked something that prevents Yahoo Mail from staying open. Any ideas?

Would you do this please :

Click on Firefox's menu button (the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner) and then on Options => Privacy & Security.

Under "Forms & Passwords" check the box that says :

"Ask to save logins and passwords for websites"

That should keep you signed in (on every site that requires your username and password) ....

Opie5 Your ‘logged-in’ status is stored in special cookies. If the cookie is removed, you are logged out

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

Note that there is no need to use "Clear history when Firefox closes" if you aren't using it currently. Only if you use this feature then you need to make sure to keep the cookies and possibly the Site Preferences.

You can let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies instead of using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"

You can create an "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies.

  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep
