my e-mail app doesn't open an error message says reopen but continues to not open

I try to open my e-mail app and it bounces up and down I get a message ....The last time you opened the Mail it unexpectedly quit while reopning windows. Do you want to try to reopnen its window again. I hit reopen and I continuously get...Mail quit unexpectedly click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically. Then there is a bunch of detail configuration information. I hit reopen my e-mail opens for a second and I repeatedly get the same message Problem Report for Mail to hit Reopen...I can't find any info any where on how to restart the mail...help
