Hello to all,

I wanted to use DoH (dnsforge.de) under “maximum protection”, but with one exception: I would like Ecosia.org to be able to place ads for me, because I am convinced of Ecosia and want to support this project. Tested this with Cloudflare as well, setting up an exception here does not work either.

Now the exception set in Firefox has no effect. It should not be due to the DNS provider, because Ecosia.org is not blocked and has even been whitelisted.

What is the expected behavior of the “maximum protection” setting?

Kind regards

Hi, I don't think ads are blocked by DNS over HTTPS, unless you are using a special DNS provider that blocks ads.

What Max Protection means is: if a site's address is not found in the secure provider, Firefox will NOT check your system as a backup. That prevents possible "leaks" of your DNS lookups to insecure providers. See: Configure DNS over HTTPS protection levels in Firefox.

On Ecosia, it looks like sponsored results are retrieved using a script from "syndicatedsearch.goog". Maybe one of your add-ons is blocking that site?

Hi, thanks for answering.

dnsforge.de (adminforge) is blocking ads indeed, but in the meantime, I have asked whether ecosia.org could be whitelisted at dnsforge.de. And as of today, I see that it is whitelisted.

I think I found the reason, thanks to you: see screenshot. syndicatedsearch.goog is blocked by my dns provider.

Thanks, I guess.
