Why did Firefox ask for my laptop’s administration name and password to uninstall it from my applications folder when I was logged into the Administration account on my laptop?

All my other applications in the Applications folder had the ability to be moved into the trash can. What makes Firefox different?

I was using Mac OSX 10.6. I just upgraded from Mac OSX 10.5.8 in order to upgrade to the current Firefox.

My concern is that I clicked a bad link on Safari a couple days ago and it popped up 5 or 6 web browsers, including one for that mac cleaner junk. I force quit then cleared history, cookies, and cache.

But then I noticed on Mozilla Firefox occasionally I’d be redirected away from the legit web page I was on to a blank page that never loaded with the loading bar half-way blue. The sight was for google lead services, which is a scamy page if you follow the url.

I think this might be a Google Redirect.

My thinking was if I updated my OSX and installed a newer version of Firefox the problem would go away, that this was a security concern that a newer Firefox would resolve.

Now when I’m on Firefox, if I go to one of the legit websites I was on before there’s no re-directing to a new website.

But was it right to type in the administration name and password to uninstall the old Firefox? Is that just quirk of the old Firefox or is it a trick to give a hacker that information to install rootkits or something like that?

I’m not a technical person and over my head on this.
