Is there a way that I can send a control command to the Firefox browser to have it close a particular tab?

Our application interfaces with web based medical image archiving systems (PACS) by sending a URL to open web pages which display the required images.

We normally use MS Internet explorer, and when we want to close these image (say when the Doctor has finished looking at them) we send a .Net command to close each window individually.

We have one customer that prefers to use Firefox as their browser, which works well when it comes to opening image pages, but as Firefox does not have the same relationship with .Net, our commands to close the page go unheeded, resulting in the Doctors often having 30+ pages which they have to manually close.

We have considered sending a global closure message to cease all Mozilla pages - but this seems a less than elegant solution. Could you please tell me if there is a way that our software might send instruction to close individual Firefox pages?
