I did "refresh firefox" and lost all my bookmarks and all my history. Tried to restore from the library and get message "unable to process the backup file."
Well since submitting this I find I can't surf either. I can only access firefox addresses. And practically every page I visit says if I have a problem the first thing I should do is 'refresh." You have got to be kidding. Please remove that suggestion it is what got me in this mess in the first place.

Update: now I can't close tabs either!
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
