Hyperlinks in Thunderbird (115.9.0 64 bit) running on Ubuntu 22.04.4-LTS have quit working overnight. Too my knowledge nothing changed. I have followed all the steps in the document "Hyperlinks in messages not working" with no luck. 1) My default browser was Chrome. Changed to FireFox. No Luck. Changed back no luck. 2) Check that no application is specified for HTTP content can not be followed No Preferences option exists under the menu in my version of Thunderbird. Checked in settings found nothing matching the description. 3) Checked for incorrect preferences. Used config editor. Their is no Reset option for the settings. Found the referenced setting. Switched from True to False and then back again, hoping the might reset it. No Luck 4) Switched to Safe mode from the Help menu. No luck.

New to Linux, just set this system up 2 months ago. Migrated my Windows Thunderbird database without issue and it was working fine until this morning.

In need of suggestions. If uninstalling is going to be required, I need to be able to do it a way that does not lose my historical email records or my cardbook address book of 1000 names.

Thanks

Recently, when I click on Get Messages to download email from Comcast server I receive error messages. One error shows "Login to server mail.comcast.net with username X?X?X failed. Retry, Enter New Password, Cancel".. Second error shows "Sending of passwowrd for user X?X?X did not succeed. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded: [AUTH] Temporarily blacklisted IP Address - try again later" I spoke with Comcast tech support and they, of course, gave me the standard line that I was using a 3rd Party App for email and they could not support that and I could instead use the email on line at my Comcast account site utilizing the antiquated Comcast mail options. They finally attempted to help and after they researched the issue they suggested I change the Server Name setting form 'MAIL.COMCAST.NET' to 'IMAP.COMCAST.NET' and changed port from 995 to 993. I tried making those changes and was not receiving the error statements. But I also was not seeing ANY email downloaded or message indicating TBird was login in the Comcast server. I then changed the Server Name back to 'MAIL.COMCAST.NET' and port back to 995. TBird then correctly downloaded dozens of emails. When I tried to same thing the next day, though, the error problems had returned. Finally, I was looking at Tools>Account Settings and selected Add-ons and Themes in left pane. I noticed Bitdefender Toolbar was enabled under Extensions so I tried switching it to disabled. Voila, the program would once again download emails. But a short time later another try to Get Messages resulted in the errors again. Can anyone answer with changes to connect properly to Comcast for email? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im using Thunderbird Beta release. Starting last week, my PC would become extremely slow, to the point it would nearly come to a complete halt. After digging around, I realized it was due to excessively large Thunderbird NSTMP files that were being created. I would delete them and the speed would improve. But then a while later, the NSTMP files reappear and gobble up all my Harddisk again. Part of the issue is the sheer large size of the file, which will consume all available space on my HD, which at present is 600GB. But it also eats up all my RAM so my system slows down til the NSTMP file is fully built.

I use this as imap with Gmail installed on a PC with a 1TB SSD

Today after my pc started slowing again, I started poking around and noticed my main Inbox is massive, 29GB, which there is no chance its that large. All Mail is only 1GB to give perspective

This has been going on about a week.

I tried repairing my inboxes and other folders, but that does not seem to have helped.

So running thunderbird 115.10.1 (64-bit) and more and more issues:

  • the app keeps getting non-responsive for long period of time, to fix this I have to force quit the app.
  • at times when composing an email the app freezes where no typing occurs for seconds or typing is very slow or after typing awhile the text suddenly appears.

Seems to be happening more and more trying to figure out how it can return back to it's rockstar state when it was <99 version.

any help would be appreciated.

My wife is an ardent and long-time Thunderbird user. She has tens of thousands of old emails organized into dozens of folders. Recently she noted that many folders contained scrambled emails. For example, an email titled "The race to re-design sugar" from Sept. 2020 now contained what looked like content from an email from Office Depot. See below for a short piece of the body of the email. Anyway, I ran Thunderbird's "repair folder" function and not only did it not unscramble the emails, it also seems to have deleted any emails prior to 6 months ago. Fortunately I've got her T-Bird profile file backed up daily, so was able to restore the original (but scrambled) emails. Any thoughts? I use outlook, but I've got pretty good PC skills if you need to take me into the weeds. Thanks!

Since upgrading to version 115.8.1 I get unable to write email to mailbox . I have three email addresses in my profile. All are POP. One (from yahoo) always hangs and the other two fail intermittently. OS is Windows 10 64-bit at 22H2 level It doesn't matter if Zonealarm is turned on or off. I have over 300GB of free space on disk.

Full error message: Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox.

A few days ago emails with attachments (pdf, jpeg), and of various sizes, stopped sending (timed out). The problem appears to only exist when I send from my desktop, not using webmail. All had been working fine prior to a few days ago. Emails without attachments send fine. Incoming emails (with and without attachments are also fine). I have had several discussions with my internet service provider who claim there is no issue at their end. I have checked my account/server settings in Thunderbird and all seems correct there. I'm using the POP mail server, if that is relevant. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. Not being able to send emails with attachments if a major impediment.

I just tried to enter Troubleshoot mode and thunderbird stopped responding....Top line says Mozilla Thunderbird (Not Responding). I notice this subject has been mentioned prior, but I cannot find a resolve. Been using Thunderbird for a long time without issues, but last week it stopped sending and receiving emails through the Skymesh internet provider. Still sends & receives Hotmail/Gmail/Yahoo, but will not connect to any Skymesh accounts. Have reinstalled/updated, but no change. SMTP timeout and if I change settings I get the 10060 error. Could not even connect to their Webmail page either. If I turn VPN on, then I can access their Webmail page. Rang Skymesh, they poked around and said it was all this end and with Thunderbird. Seems an IP number change via VPN with Opera resolved the Webmail page access, but I cannot do that thru Thunderbird. Running Win 7. Anyone ??

Hi, we started getting Thunderbird errors on both inbound and outbound messages when everything was fine earlier this morning on both. We are on Windows 10 running the Thunderbird 115.5.0 (32-bit) Release.

Inbound error message: The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later. Outbound error message: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) outbound.att.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.

Are you all experiencing server issues - I don't believe this is a configuration problem on my side?

When Thunderbird is set to synchronize from an iCloud contact CardDAV, it is unable to show the photos for the contact. I am using TB 115 on Windows (problem is platform independent).

Steps to reproduce
  1. Have an Apple ID. Use iCloud contact's web UI to create a contact and upload a photo for them.
  2. Get an app password for the Apple ID.
  3. Add iCloud contact as a CardDAV address book in TB. Should use https://contacts.icloud.com/contacts/ as the carddav location. The actual carddav URL I got is something like https://p123-contacts.icloud.com/12345678901/carddavhome/card/. (not a real link)
  4. Sync the address book. The photo would not display correctly.
My investigation

Apple's carddav API server returns in its vcard a HTTP URL as its PHOTO field, like:

PHOTO;VALUE=URI:https://gateway.icloud.com/contacts/12345678901/ck/card/123
 456789abcd12345678abcd1234567

(not a real url; you can export the vcard if you have done the above reproducing steps) However, this URL cannot be directly accessed (would return 401 saying "Missing X-APPLE-WEBAUTH-USER cookie"; see e.g. this github issue). However, the cookie is not really needed; I can use HTTP basic auth with the same credential for the carddav server (in this case it's the apple app password, yourappleid@apple.com:1234-abcd-5678-dcba).

Potential fix

The current implementation directly puts the carddav photo URI into an HTML img tag. I think Thunderbird can make an AJAX request to fetch the image with the credentials and then put the result into an img tag.

Since updating TB to 115.8 I have been getting this "unable to write email to the mailbox" error on one specific POP3 account. The account starts the download process, runs through perhaps a dozen or so mails, before getting stuck on (by the looks of the status bar) one particular email being filtered into a folder) and then crashing out. I have tried thus far, by means of elimination

1: Only one specific POP3 account is affected, others using the same domain are fine. 2: Plenty of spare space on the HDD, no permission issues 3: Copied the mailbox store to a new location and updated TB to use that location - no change. 4: Repaired the inbox and a few sample subfolders. 5: Created subfolders of a few sample folders with no emails in, and amended filters accordingly - so new mails are being filtered to a virgin file. 6: Disabled all filters, created a new blank inbox subfolder and directed everything in the download, into that - same problem.

I'm confident that all file permission, storage space & corrupt mailbox possibilities, have been eliminated and this is a TB bug. Some further observations...

I access the affected mailbox via IMAP from a mobile device, before treating TB (using POP3) as the master storage. TB then has a rolling 90day delete as part of the POP3 config, so it should only download anything new since the last synch, but maintain a 90day history. All synch attempts now, are downloading mails from mid-November and thus creating duplicates - I have manually logged into the domain mailbox and intentionally deleted the oldest 50 mails, as a test. All that happens is that the problem is shifted 50 mails up the list.. TB seems to have forgotten what is actually a new mail.

If I was able to revert TB to the previous version, I would - and am still tempted to research the mechanics of doing this.
