I use Firefox sync between multiple devices, including a desktop and a laptop on Ubuntu Linux. This is done through a Firefox account. Both Ubuntu devices mentioned run Firefox 108.0 for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

I'm signed in on this Firefox account on my laptop (from which I'm writing this message). I recently (some months ago) changed my primary e-mail, since I may lose access to the older e-mail account soon. Now, suddenly, on my Ubuntu Desktop I received a message that I need to sign in to sync. When I click on "sign in", it takes me to tab that lists my primary e-mail address and asks for my password. I enter the password that I know is correct (it is listed under my saved logins on this Ubuntu laptop and the e-mail listed is the primary e-mail address with which I am signed in on my laptop, writing this message; it is also listed on my Firefox account details as my primary e-mail address). I then get a red message on tab stating "Primary account e-mail required for sign in", despite the fact that it is with my primary e-mail that I am attempting to sign in! I've tried it multiple times, to no avail.

At least two other users have posted about related concerns this year: (see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1368875 and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1395902). However, nothing has been done to resolve this issue. I have followed all instructions provided for changing my primary e-mail address. This is definitely a fault on Mozilla's side and not mine. Please resolve this urgently, users risk losing vast amounts of data, through no fault of their own, if you fail to do so.

First of all, this doesn't affect the Windows version, only the Linux version (didn't test on OSX). The problem is as follows: 1. Firefox installs an update in the background while still in use. 2. I open a new tab. 3. That's it. After an update finishes downloading, new tabs refuse to open, some citing a crash (if opened by active tabs, such as YouTube), most stating the browser needs to restart. It is not a networking problem, since already active tabs function normally, even YouTube playlists function as intended (despite the fact that they nominally refresh the entire page); and, as mentioned, the browser itself says it needs to restart. Q1: Is this intended behaviour? If so, Q2a: what purpose does it serve? If not, Q2b: what causes it? Additionally, after an update, Firefox (again, only for Linux) has rendering problems when first booted up, causing tiling, and needing Alt+f4 to close. I may revisit this issue later in a separate thread.

Cannot keep firefox open when signed into Mozilla Sync account

I'm running version v92.0 (64) on ubuntu 21.04. Firefox would crash upon opening when signed in. It would stay active enough for me to disable the extensions & themes. After doing that it still crashed. I tried going into Troubleshooting mode and it would still crash. I went into Troubleshooting mode and did a refresh. It was still crashing. Finally I signed out of my mozilla sync account and the browser has stayed active long enough for me to type this report.

I've submitted all crash reports in about:crashes, and I'm not really sure what to do next.

Perhaps a local version of the Mozilla Sync profile has been corrupted? if so, is there a way to remove it and pull down the "sync"ed version from Mozilla's servers? What if the version on Mozilla's server's has been corrupted? should I back up the local profile (wherever it is) before removing?

I hope I've given enough information. Please let me know if you need further, more specific information.

On certain websites this "Geckomain" process destroys my CPU to 100% and maxes my network traffic with more upload traffic than download, using a lot of my data and bandwidth etc. This is a major concern because I have to pay for my data, it's not unlimited. If left open this process will consume more than 1.5gb of RAM while nothing functions. The only way to stop it is to leave the website. I have to use these websites for my job, so I can't just avoid them. I need a resolution ASAP. Thank you.

I'm struggling with firefox crashing every few days or so. Unfortunately, pretty often there is no crash report. Is there a way I can sanely get to the bottom of this?

It happens to me more often with Cisco Webex than other scenarios, but there are also completely unrelated crashes.

This is Ubuntu 20.04 and standard firefox package installation. I haven't yet turned off the extensions:

 feedbro
 gnome shell integration
 stylus
 uBlock origin

I hesitate to disable them since most are important to my work.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

Recently, I updated ubuntu to the latest version, and had set Firefox as my primary browser (as I normally did).

I, however, could no longer access to the local hidden directories, i.e.: .local, etc., with this version. I even tried to disable Firefox sandbox security, security.sandbox.content.level = 0, and changed chown/chmod to the lowest levels, but those didn't help.

The issue can be repeated via the URL in Firefox as followed:

file:///home/y2021x/.local

or any other hidden directory. I could open these files/directories in the older versions of Firefox.

Am I overlooking something? I appreciate very much if you could help me find out the solution to this problem. Thank you very much.

For quite a while I am using Firefox and had no issues, but recently, with new version , I am constantly facing two issues 1. the initial load of a page takes more then 30 seconds , sometimes 1 minute, but after the first page has been loaded if I open another page , it will be as usual 2. Completely random and without any sign of slowing down the OS - the OS freezes - nothing works at all and I have to restart it using the power button. ( and this happens when Firefox is open so I doubt Firefox)

I am having issues with opening link for external applications. The application can be What'sApp or Zoom or Slack and when trying to open an external app I get a windows that ask for me to select the application to open the link.. When doing this the only option have I have is System Handler and Choose Application.. Neither option is helpful.. This did not happen with firefox packaged with .deb .. I am assuming that this deal with snap sandbox security.. I later read an article

I did a little reading and came across a link https://ubuntu.com/blog/how-to-snap-introducing-classic-confinement

Which instructed on how to create a snap with --classic confinement.. I am not sure if this will resolve the issue that I am having .. But I didn't find that I could install firefox snap with the --classic option.. I am not that familiar with snaps so I could be completely off but wanted to know if someone could look into it..

I would like to add an image but it doesn't seem like firefox will allow me to on this page. (Browse is not opening a window) Also copy and paste didn't work

Hello, I was trying to fix this issue on my browser but I was not able to do it. The OS is Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS 64-bit. Currently, I'm using Firefox version 99.0a1 but I had the same issue on version 97. Also, I have this issue on only one of my PCs. As I said in the subject: - The browser freezes the whole PC and I have to force reboot it. (I already disabled the hardware acceleration) - the recent download item open button does not trigger the opening of the folder. - If I try to download a file, the browser ask me where to save it. But if I try to download another one the browser shows me the directory with path /run/usr/1000/... I tried to delete places.sqlite but I received the same result. ... I'm attaching two screenshots also. Thanks a lot!

I am using KDE Ubuntu Linux OS on desktop CPU with Firefox browser.

When I went to sign in to a website. After I entered the user name and password the next step should be that requires a Google 2FA authentication code but the website goes blank. I refreshed site. Still a blank webpage.

The website will open correctly as expected using my Android cell phone using Firefox browser. Which is also where I have the Google Authentication app installed.

I had to use Brave to open the website. I am told by others Google Chrome will also work but I try to avoid both these browsers.

I have not added the 2FA sign in to Firefox main sign in yet. I intend to switch over to a Yubikey 2fa in the near future.

Any ideas?

Firefox seems to be blocking some element required for logging in to Dropbox. Any attempt to log in to Dropbox results in this message:

Your browser appears to be blocking dropboxcaptcha.com, which is required for authentication. To resolve this issue, please update any anti-virus or ad-blocking software settings to allow connections to dropboxcaptcha.com.

I have found the issue referenced [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1146181|once]before on this forum, and that solution does not resolve the matter: restarting Firefox in safe mode has absolutely no effect on this, and the problem manifests identically in whether safe-mode or not.

I am on Linux 64-bit, running Ubuntu 20.04, with Firefox provided by that distro's repo.

Firefox will only open in Safe mode, previously it was working but now it's not.

I have Ubuntu 22.04 Firefox version 99.0.1 (64-bit)

When I try to open it in command line, it's also only opening in safe mode but I do also get some error messages that I've included below.

So what does all this stuff below from the command line actually mean? And how do I fix it?
