In organization we like to use Firefox as default browser. But we have a every day problem with profiles.

After update, Firefox create new profile and not copy user data to it. So user lost hes tabs, extensions, history and e.t.c. We can see two or more profiles for one user.

For example user logon to computer with Firefox version 68.0.1. Firefox automatically update to 68.0.2, and user now have new profile without custom data.

profiles.ini looks like:

We create powershell script for workaround issue. Script copy files from privies profile: $profileCurrent\*.sqlite" $profileCurrent\sessionstore.jsonlz4" $profileCurrent\extensions\*.*" $profileCurrent\*.json"

You mast know that in organization we user roaming profile and ue-v, so users can logon on any computer. Some computers can be with older Firefox version like 68.0.1 or new one like 68.0.2.

Please help find solution for this issues. Can Firefox account help with this? Or we mast create some more clever script?

Firefox has opened successfully for years. Today, I double clicked on the icon, and it will not launch. I uninstalled and reinstalled it two three times and no luck. So I then tried performing the profile creation and got the following result.

Profile couldn’t be created. Probably the chosen folder isn’t writable. [Exception... Not sure how to solve this.

I recently copied my Old Firefox profile to another folder and refreshed my Firefox Dev Edition browser. After refreshing, I copied all of the content of my old Firefox profile to the new default profile and then started the browser. Upon starting it, the browser was working with all of my previous add-ons. But whenever I close the browser and open it again, the icons of the add-ons at the overflow menu are not showing though there is space for the add-ons. Whenever I click at the add-ons, the error that 'Access to file was denied' - `The file at moz-extension://b408b31d-945f-43cb-881e-b1f4071942b6/index.html is not readable` shows up. I tried it with creating other profile folders and then copying my old profile data but it still always happens.

Any help?

Or, can I use ProfileManager to create a new profile on the server and copy the contents of the client profile to the new one?

Refreshed, now cannot access bookmarks, but DO have 'old Firefox data' file, nothing I have tried has worked.

Yes, I have the 'old Firefox data' file but several methods suggested for getting my bookmarks back have not worked. I also did the procedure suggested to make an HTML file from the backup file, just in case I might need it, but I do not see the HTML file in 'documents'. Is it somewhere else? I could list some of the efforts I have made to get my bookmarks back but it would take several pages of typing. Right now I have about 15 windows open from links on help pages for multiple ways to fix bookmarks problems, but after working on this for several hours I am hopelessly confused.

For one example: I went to Library / hit 'bookmarks' / hit 'show all bookmarks' / hit 'import and backup' / hit 'restore' / hit 'OK' / get message: "unable to process backup file".

Should I throw the computer out, buy a new one and start over? It would certainly be simpler. But I absolutely DO need those bookmarks.

Others have asked similar questions but for different platforms and none of the suggestions have either worked, been appropriate for the setup or understood by me (a non programmer!). I am operating High Sierra 10.13.6 and after migrating to Firefox 67 have lost everything to do with previous setup.

When trying to set a previous profile as default I get the error message about launching an older version of Firefox and gives me a quit or new profile option only which is not satisfactory.

Is there not a simple solution to this unasked for level of complication that allows me to restore my existing bookmarks and passwords without delving deep into processes I don't understand and inputting lots of lines of code? It feels like I've taken my car in to fill up the tank and been told to rebuild the engine to get my car going again.

Im inputting this using Chrome because almost every attempt to use firefox causes a crash

All help gratefully received.

I just installed "Firefox Quantum" version 67.0.1, and none of my bookmarks were copied from my previous version. So I looked at help files on how to import my old bookmarks from my last version of Firefox, and they're all about either importing from Chrome, or Safari, etc, or else they're about sync'ing my mobile devices to my laptop. I don't need any of that information. Why didn't Firefox keep my old bookmarks, the way it always has whenever I have upgraded to a new version? What did it do to my old bookmarks?

I'm kind of upset, because I have a lot of recent bookmarks that I will have lost (since last backup). I sure hope Mozilla didn't just delete all that.

Oh, and I do have a Firefox account, and I've logged in, but still can't find anything that will tell me how to get my bookmarks back.

Any help appreciated as I am lost without them for work...

When I started up firefox, it came with information telling me to sync to an email and my phone and i did all that.i just cant find anyway of restoring my data. I've tried using this thread to help me but i can't find the old firefox data folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1195682

I also remember having mulitiple add-ons like no script and ad blocker plus but i don't know which version they were.

I use Firefox on a Windows 10/Ubuntu 18.04 dual boot system and share the profile of the Windows partition to use the same Firefox information with both installations. After upgrading the Firefox Win10 version to 67.0, I get the error message uploaded as a picture. The Ubuntu Firefox version is also 67.0, so there is no older version that modifies the profile information.

I found this thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1259820 describing a similar question, and the chosen solution to delete the compatibility.ini from the profile folder revived the profile. However, this is not a permanent solution. Using Ubuntu Firefox after Windows Firefox is unproblematic, whereas the error reappears in Windows Firefox after using Ubuntu Firefox. I have to delete now the compatibility.ini every time I use Windows Firefox after Ubuntu Firefox, which is rather annoying. Obviously, the Ubuntu and the Windows version of Firefox 67 interpret this .ini file differently. Is there anything planned to synchronize both versions of Firefox 67 better? Or any other solution that solves this problem permanently? And no - I don't want to store my profile information on an external Sync server. Thank you for your time reading this. Any help is much appreciated.

I want to restore a profile, which is still installed on my computer, but don't know how. On the attachment photo, the bottom profile is the one I am using now. The one I want to restore and to use that one ONLY on this computer is shown above it which is dated 5/19/2019. What are my options to do this? As stated now all my saved passwords, website histories and everything are now gone and it now says default profile 1 release and I don't use your beta channel either. So in the span of 20 minutes I went from updated, to updated a second time to release 1 and there is nothing in my profile now.

Please tell me that you store the default profile somewhere so it can be imported. I always relied on Firefox to this moment and always thought Google need to learn how to deliver what their users want and not what they want but right now so angry about what has happened.

Computer slowed after the latest update, so I deleted every bit of firefox and tried to re-install it which is refused because of having no more profile

Finally I found that my profile could be the reason and I deleted the whole Firefox-Folder completely to start from anew. When I download the new Version comes "either you have no profile or the use is denied" and everything stops. If someone starts the first time with Firefox he would not have a profile either. So how can I get back using Firefox as my browser again?

When I upgraded to the most recent version of Firefox, I lost all of my tabs. The directions on upgrade indicated that I would not lose any tab information. However, on startup of the new version, I seem to only have the option to restore from sync which I never did. I do not believe that I was instructed to do this prior to closing. I maintain 2 active open profiles, home and office, and I do not want these to be synced. I had them both set up to automatically restore the last session which was working well. I am no longer able to restore from an old session. I think this is because this is an entirely new version of Firefox and the local settings were not saved. Now I want to either recover the old tab data and apply to the new installation or restore the previous version of Firefox which might have my previous tab data. Please help.

I had Firefox 62.0.2 running on my Mac, with extensions like Ad Blocker and Translations, but as it was real real slow, I had asked to run without extensions, and the next time it responded with the "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." so I had followed all the advice published on the www, but after 2 days, found none of the answers and suggestions is working or is applicable, so I had implemented few removals and new installations of the application - but, always getting the same famos ”Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." and A Freeze during the "verification of firefox.app" each time, on completely new installation!

In fact, the Firefox/extensions folders were never created on my Mac (On new install, as well) but the application was working for a long time, and there was/is a Mozilla folder which seems to hold my Chrome (add-ons) but no Firefox folder exists on this and my other Mac in the Library/Application Support.

I even removed my Chrome and reinstalled it to see if it can be done, and there was no problem in new Chrome installation - as it is with Firefox 62.0.2

When I tried to start Firefox after it had crashed i got the "Your profile cannot be loaded" error. I to reinstall it but the error persisted. I then googled and found that you could remove profiles.ini and ~/.cache/mozilla/. I've removed both of these as well as reinstalling Firefox multiple times.

But it still show the error message. It even "spread" to Thunderbird.

I'm using macOS Mojave 10.14.

To correct a problem in MS Word, Microsoft Support created a new Windows 10 profile on my laptop and reinstalled MS Office. Firefox is still on my laptop in the new profile, but its appearance is changed. It has lost all the profile data from the old Win 10 profile. I have looked at the articles under "Manage preferences and add-ons" but I don't think they solve my issue because I don't have a backup of my Firefox profile. Or, if I still do, I don't know how to find it on the old Windows profile, which is still on my laptop.

I had a lot of bookmarks, add-ons and preferences that I would like to retrieve for my browser. Is that possible?

I had a power cut whilst loading firefox. Tried to load when power restored, but get the message about the Profile missing or inaccessible. Thought that deleting the copy on C drive and loading a fresh copy of Firefox would solve the problem, so deleted it - didn't help - same message when I try to load a new copy. How can I install a totally new copy of the program ? I have another copy of Firefox on a laptop - can the profile from this help ?

I have an iMac. Operating system is High Sierra 10.13.6. Firefox was running slowly today and a pop up window came up on the bottom of my screen and gave me the option of "refreshing" Firefox. I hit the refresh button, and it was taking FOREVER to refresh Firefox, so I clicked out of it (the little red button) mid-refresh. Ever since then, when I try to open Firefox, I get a message stating that Firefox cannot be opened because my profile is missing or deleted. Shortly after this happened, a folder appeared on my desktop titled "Old Firefox Data" which contains about 60 items. I did not create this folder. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. I have also tried starting my iMac in safe mode, then restarting in regular mode. Was on the phone with Apple Tech Support for over an hour and they were unable to help. They are aware of the "Old Firefox Data" folder but they didn't know what to do with it. I am not tech or computer savvy. Other people have posted this exact question before, and answers have been provided, however I don't understand the answers or the instructions that supposedly solve this problem. This is why I'm asking this question again. I am hoping someone can help and provide a simplified answer or simplified instructions to solve this problem. Thank you.
