From the thread number above > "Here's how I do it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file
The file has to be named user.js and it has to be located in the active Profile folder. And this is the correct code for disabling updates.
// turn off application updates: user_pref("app.update.enabled", false); "
That may sound very simple to some, but it raises questions in my mind. What is the path to the active profile folder? What is the exact name of said folder? Do you add those two lines to what is in there or do you replace lines with this? You make sure it only says that and nothing else in the file? I'm not a programmer (Clearly) and I dont want to be. I would love to read a complete explanation in standard English where the writer assumes I know nothing except English. No assumptions and no ambiguity! Please explain it to me like I was five if possible. I certainly know how to create a text file. I know how to find files, unhide system files and a good working knowledge of using the path (when given to me). Is this kept in program files or app data?
As for the continual harangue about security, I believe that update does not equal improvement. Very often I find it limits our ability and program utility. Only the extremely naive would believe newer is better in every way. It's not. I've seen too many user rights disappear in the name of security, when in fact they were in the service of copyright protections for content providers, not our protection. Just ask the NEW CEO and compare the release right after he took over with the prior release. All of a sudden every download utility stops working. My "security"... Using 38.0.5 on Win 7 Professional (64 bit) and I wish to keep it that way. Thank you very much for your kind and complete replies.
when I set my privacy settings and exit options, then reenter options/privacy, the settings have been returned to the default. Solution?????

Firefox 38 The option to right click on an image and select save image as, sometimes creates a jpg that will not show in my image viewing program BreezeBrowser,I just get a red cross, and opening it into Photoshop declares it as having a problem. 'Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)'
I can go to another website and it works on an image,
The only way to resolve it is to do a printscreen of the entire screen and fiddle around in photoshop.
I have been able to use Right click save image as, in IE for decades, and since using Firefox, this last few years likewise, but in recent months I get this problem.

When I open FF I get the web search page. About 3 seconds later I get a new blank search box and
" Meet Suchita, who brings Mozilla's non-profit mission to life. She taught herself to code using our free tools, and now she’s making a bigger impact by teaching people in her Pune, India community about the Web. Way to be Moz-awesome, Suchita!" message.
If this is advertising OK but what ever I enter into the search box gets cleared as soon as the Non-Profit at work message comes up.
So frustrating to miss the first few letters of what I have typed in.
Thanks Wallace

I intended to delete Chrome once all my data was saved in Firefox but now I cannot because none of my saved log on usernames and passwords I have saved in Chrome imported to Firefox. Is there any way to fix this? I have followed all the directions. When going to Tools/Options/Security/Saved Passwords - they are not there.

Dear Expert,

Which add-ons failed to sync: 1/ Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U76 10.75.2.34 2/ Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.760.34 10.76.2.34

I am experiencing random occasional crashes with new Firefox versions 40 (40.0.2 , 40.0.3 both so far). They just happen randomly after a while of browsing. Sometimes it's triggered by just a mere mouse cursor movement (really strange..). Anyway here are some details.
This is what I see in .xsession-errors file after a crash:
case 1) firefox: ../../src/XlibInt.c:595: _XPrivSyncFunction: Assertion `dpy->synchandler == _XPrivSyncFunction' failed.
case 2) firefox: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.
The 2nd case happens much more often than the 1st one.

I'm using a bit old linux distro backtrack 5 R2. I know this is kinda outdated distro and you will probably not gonna rash into fixing this, but I just couldn't find any info about those failed assertions, so I'm posting it here. In case you find out how to fix it or workaround it (so the new version of Firefox do not crash for me), please let me know.. Thank you!
constant updates and they all seem to be the same size.

Firefox not saving from history for this site.

The company has recently changed around and this form is on a different page. Before the change around the form was remembered and I only had to press the first letter or number of my name, address, emall etc and the full line was offered to me by FF and when clicked on the fields auto filled.
I have filled this form in 3 or 4 times now and no autofill is available. I also deleted the cookies for this when it did not work the first time. I use this form every week so this is very inconvenient. Other forms autofill so please do not ask me to check my settings. Passwords and user name are remembered so this is a problem for ASDA and Mozilla to sort out.
I am using Windows 7 on my main computer a Toshiba Laptop (2 years old). The problem also exists on my old computer a desktop using widows XP. I suppose it would as I am using sync with FF 38.05 on both devices.

The message, We're embarrassed, Foxfire is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs" I've tried shutting down tabs and even removing Firefox and re-loading but this message still returns. I'm also plagued with pop-ups and yes I've tried the pop-up blocker. Tks, Blake

It is the fifth largest user of CPU cycles and the largest memory hog by a factor of 10. It continues to gobble up memory even when I am not using it. When it has gobbled up 3.2+GB of memory it crashes. Then I have to start over or switch to Chrome which solved its memory problem. Is anyone working on this or am I the only one with this problem?

I am continually asked if I want 40. I say yes. It's downloaded and then asks me to click to install. I click. Firefox restarts, but it never updates from 38. I've done this at least 20 times over the last two months.
It prints the page correctly, but also spits out a blank page TOGETHER with it. Not after. Printer does not have this issue when used with other applications

Flash (v 17.0.0.188 - up to date according to "Plugin Status) keeps on crashing on my Firefox 38.0.5 when I try to visit one of my favorite sites (https://www.atg.se). I have no problems when using IE (but who wanna use THAT?). I've read what can be found about flash crashing, fiddled around with earlier solutions and I've tried with and without hardware acceleration - Still no joy. And as you can see, my "crash screen" (screendump) are missing a bit from the one in the "Send plugin crash reports to help Mozilla improve Firefox" article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/send-plugin-crash-reports-help-improve-firefox , so I turn here for hopefully a solution.
Thanks in advance Bobby

I recently updated to the latest version of Firefox on Windows 7 and I'm running into a slight annoyance with Youtube. At first, videos were only loading sometimes, but I updated my plugins and that took care of the problem. But now, whenever I load a video (it happens more frequently with embedded ones), I get the "An error occurred. Please try again later." error and then the video plays. I have cleared my cache and cookies, I've ensured that everything is updated, and I've tried using Firefox in Safe Mode. Nothing makes a difference. This is only a minor issue because, like I said, the video still plays after displaying the error...but I have to admit that it is a bit annoying. And I'd also like to make sure there isn't some bigger problem at play here. I've tried researching this, but all I can find are people who run into issues with videos not playing at all. Any suggestions?
