Hi,

I have recently bookmarked from chrome successfully, or so I THOUGHT..... but for some reason when I try add a new bookmark to a folder I have used, the bookmark WON't SEND IT TO THAT FOLDER..... and then for some reason it'll save it when I go into the three bars - Bookmarks - and then appears there instead. I don't understand why the bookmark doesn't save into one of my folders? is there some kind of problem happened when the boomarks migrated from Chrome?

Usually dozens of times a day I click Ctrl-D to add a bookmark to a specific folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar. Previously, bookmarks were added by default to the top of the list of one folder (I'm not sure how I originally got it to do that) but in all other folders the bookmark would be added to the bottom of the list. How can I add bookmarks using Ctrl-D by default to the top of the list in EVERY folder? Or do I have to manually do this?  :-(

Have registered and tried to log in with an insurance provider. Usual stuff - email, then password. In Firefox it keeps opening new tabs repeatedly - forever if I let it. I have to close the browser to stop it!

Have tried to do the same thing via Microsoft Edge, and it works just fine, so I'm not stuck, but it does seem to be the browser. I usually, and would have, put this url into a container, but, as stated, it just keeps opening a new tab at the rate of about 1 a second!

Have tried opening other exisiting bookmarks in Firefox and they work just fine.

Have tried Settings/Privacy and Security/Clear Data Have tried CCleaner. Have tried restart.

Help!

I have numerous folders in my Bookmarks list. When I access Bookmarks, Firefox automatically opens all of my folders and sub-folders, which means I have to scroll through all of them to find the bookmark I want. Is there any way to stop this behavior so that I only see a list of folders and can open only the one I want to access? Thanks.

Yesterday Firefox installed some updates. A while later I noticed that my bookmark icon to the left of the navigation box was missing, that some icons to the right of the navigation box(immediately to the right of the bookmark star) were missing, and that one line below, under the Other Bookmarks icon, there was only some of the bookmarks that used to be there. I tried following your suggestions with no luck? Any suggestions? Thanks.

(Windows-7/32 bit) I'm using the left sidebar to display my bookmarks. The last few FireFox updates have caused a problem (currently running 101.0.1 but have noticed the problem with previous versions). Unpredictably, when changing web pages, the bookmarks menu just rolls up for no apparent reason. Hitting CTRL-B/CTRL-B restores it, but it's also an annoyance, it does it several times a day. Why does it do that at all? Anyone have any ideas?

Hello, I have an extensive collection of bookmarks in bookmark folders. A few are a more important than others.

To me, the easy solution would be when I could colour a few folders - say blue or red.

I searched the web a bit and this is a quite hotly discussed topic. If solutions are offered, it's adding code etc. That's not for me and the results are dubious anyway.

Firefox has been around for a very long time. There are updates quite frequently. None ever feature colouring bookmark folders. Is that really so difficult? I realize this is not of vast importance, but it would be helpful to have a feature like that.

Is there a particular reason why this seems to be so difficult?

Hoping for a helpful answer.

Regards

Hi,

so for 2 versions now (since 101.0.1, while 101.0 was still ok) everytime when I'm in the Library/Bookmark Manager and expand any folder on the left, in the main window with the bookmarks, it jumps to the very top.

That is especionally annoying when you've selected some bookmarks to sort into folders which you first need to expand.

Why was that change? That behaviour wasn't there in earlier versions; and also makes no sense.

Hello,

I have many and long lists of bookmarks saved in the "Bookmarks Toolbar". The problem is that when I hover my mouse within the lists and sublists, the new rectangular form of a certain list (within another list) places over the old one in a way that I cannot distinguish the beginning/end of each one.

Can that be fixed or is there another theme that will help me see clearly the boundaries of each bookmark list/sublist?

Thank you!

I am using Firefox ver 102.01 64 bit on Win 10 laptop. In the bookmarks sidebar, the folders and individual links used to be integrated with each other in one alphabetical list. But, about 3 months ago, somehow the sidebar bookmarks bot separated from each other and now show only as two distinct groups: the folders all alphabetized separately appear at the head of the list, then the individual links are listed under the folders, alphabetized. Attached is a screen capture using SnagIt showing the sidebar as it is currently . Hopefully, someone knows how to revert to the previous bookmarks sidebar view where all bookmarks (folders and individual links) are integrated with each other alphabetically. Thank you for your help.

I have tried as suggested to delete bookmarks and then reinstall but I still get the same problem for some sites. I have actually tried installing them on MS Edge and they work but when I add them to Firefox it fails. I have used Firefox for about twenty years but this seems to be an ongoing problem. I even looked at doing this manually but that looked daunting. Included is a screen shot showing two that have not worked and have been tried several times.

Hello, My FF export to html backup stops half-way ! Here is the problem: Untill last June 2022 this backup was doing fine to reach the usual more than 65.000 mb. & gradually building up with every bookmark I add. But last month all that changed when the option started to stop half-way. Meaning it stopped at the level of more than 17.000 mb !!! Which is unbelievably LOW. Today Aug 3, 2022, I retried the operation on my usb stick. And FF export gave me the same results (with the little difference of the few bookmarks I added in the meantime). I didn't find any solution in the FF help pages to help me settle this problem. So any anything to fix this will be appreciated. I'm running windows 10 home & FF 103.0.1 (32 bit)

To support dark mode for desktop users, I’ve added SVG versions of my favicon.ico with lighter and darker colors and use @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) to have better contrast against light and dark backgrounds.

Firefox now (as of 103.0.1) supports SVG favicons (there was a (bug)https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1772632, but it's now fixed), but for the History list and the Bookmarks, Firefox is using the apple-touch-icon.

Testing – To confirm how Firefox handles SVG favicons and bookmarks, I used a new profile:

  • Set Windows to dark mode
  • Create new Firefox profile and open a new browser window
  • Navigated to one of my (sites)https://www.sbwfc.co.kr/
  • Bookmarked the site
  • Switch to light mode and repeat the navigation and bookmark
  • In both cases, the bookmark is the same – it’s the apple-touch-icon (see attached portions of the screen capture and the apple-touch-icon.png).

Using the apple-touch-icon on the Bookmarks bar has multiple issues:

  • Most touch-icons have a solid background color while many favicons use transparency, resulting in the touch-icon not looking exactly like the favicon.
  • Most touch-icons include a border area around the edge while most favicons go right up to the edge. When the image is shrunk down to 16px (CSS type pixels), because of the border area, the area for the working image is only 12px square.
  • Shrinking a 180x180 pixel PNG image down to 16px (or 32px for high-resolution displays) does lose quite a bit of detail. Most SVG favicons are designed to work well at 16 and 32px.

For sites that only have an ICO favicon, Firefox will use that image for the bookmark and history. (Firefox also seems to continue to use the ICO favicon if a site was previously bookmarked.)

Safari only uses ICO favicons (not (SVG)https://caniuse.com/link-icon-svg), so designers do need to be sure their ICO designs work with light and dark backgrounds (Apple’s logo is a #888888 gray, so is visible against a light or dark background, although not ideal).

Chrome and Edge use SVG favicons for the tab, history, and bookmarks, and, if the user switches their configuration, the icons on the bookmark bar can be switched from light to dark or vis-versa by refreshing the page. (Chrome seems to always use the initial light or dark version when clicking into the address bar).

This is probably how Firefox is intended to work, but it does seem to be a less-than-desirable solution. If it’s too complicated to use the SVG favicon for the bookmark icon (the way Chromium based browsers do), then would it be possible to only use the ICO favicon for the tab icon and the bookmark (like Safari and Internet Explorer)? Repurposing the apple-touch-icon doesn’t seem like a good solution.

Note: I did try changing the order of the links, putting the apple-touch-icon first instead of last, but it didn’t make any difference.

The code for icons for my site is:

`<link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico?v=2" sizes="any">` `<link rel="icon" href="favicon.svg?v=2" type="image/svg+xml">` `<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="sbf-apple-touch-icon.png">` `<link rel="manifest" href="manifest.json">`

Thanks
