I continually have change the default action for files with type PDF from Save File to Open in Acrobat DC. I will change it, then it works for a while, then next time I click a link on any web page to open a PDF, it tries to save the file again. Sure enough, the setting was changed back to Save File by some other program.

Isn't there a way to "lock" these preferences, or to prevent third-party apps from changing them?

This is using Windows 11 with Firefox 96.0.2 64-bit.

Thank you.

I try to like firefox and once upon a time I did like it. Now it seems it spends more time trying to prottect me and annoy me than anything else. Either images don't load, or if I'm on my laptop it won't let me access mic and video for a conference call. The thing is, I have AVG I have ad blocker I know my way around them and yet FF keeps getting in my way I turn those app and extension off/on and I'm just ANNOYED. Finally I just uninstall the mothersucker. I don't even know I have a question.....Oh yes, I want a clean simple fast browser that doesnt infantilize me or make me wear a helmet if I don't want to. I'm not a new user by any means, but this browser just bugs the shit out of me. Upshot I've gone back to Chrome as my default browser.

Why has Add Blocker Ultimate & cookies auto delete & Ant Video Downloader & All Screen Recorder & right click copy and paste ALL stopped working and disappeared from my tool bar immediately after FireFox version 96.0 updated 2 days ago on my windows 10 home laptop? I followed instructions in Mozilla support forums to customize the tool bar settings and reset default settings as instructed and even said "Abbra cadabra" and just like a bad magic trick nothing changed. I have uninstalled them and reinstalled them after rebooting except for AVD which FireFox no longer offers as an Addon extension ??? I read an article written by a volunteer to another person asking for help with these exact problems that started exactly after the version96.0 update , the person asked where to get the older version 95.0 back because all these features work in that version and the volunteer made a complete fool and liar out of himself saying that going back to older versions rarely solved the issues and that the new update had absolutely nothing to do with causing these issues. So either I also am mentally ill and imagining all these issues or that volunteer needs to apologize to the lady and print a retraction. The only thing that changed on my system was from version 95.0 to 96.0 nothing else and I checked with HP support assistant that came factory installed when I bought this laptop from HP direct 8 months ago as well as Microsoft and McAfee my antivirus protection and was given a clean bill of health from all 3. I uninstalled 96.0 and reinstalled 94.0 and can once again right click copy & paste and reinstalled all those apps direct from FireFox Addons browser page and they all show to be on and working but they are not working and I cannot get them back on the tool bar. Is there anyone that can help me solve this issue? I'm a carpenter and have zero tech skills like you people and have asked at least 100 people over the last 3 or 4 years if there is a computer training class or something I can take to try to learn things like you people know and not one person has ever told me how or where I could get the training? So I guess I have 2 questions and please someone help me fix the issues and tell me where I can get the education to hopefully never be a pain in your you know where again? Thank you very much have a wonderful week & blessings to you and all you love Sincerely PS. I am not technologically able to do the troubleshooting process to send the data I have spent 30 minutes trying to understand all this sorry

I have the most current version of Firefox (96.0.2) installed on my MacBook Air running Mojave 10.14.6. I use Last Pass as my password manager. I have been unable to install Last Pass for quite some time, and get the message that I need to download Firefox to get this extension, which makes absolutely "No Sense" since that is the browser that is installed and up to date. (see attached screen shot). Now I have made a few changes to the browser's privacy settings as outlined in this link. Is that what is causing the problem, and if so, why? https://restoreprivacy.com/firefox-privacy/ Bjala@Pm.me or 1-908-399-0701

I'm still running Windows 8.1 Pro and Firefox ESR is my default (& only other) installed browser. Internet Explorer Version 11.0.9600.20139 is still installed and tightly integrated in this version of Windows. Various application code seems to call Internet Explorer, creating a slew of cookies and temporary files, particularly during such operations as installing updates. Other code (such as "view this email in browser") ONLY works with Internet Explorer because it uses *.mht temporary space that Firefox is not permitted to access. Is there a way configure the system for many of these tasks so that Firefox is called instead? Or is this one of those "don't go there" ideas that only SEEMS like it would enhance security, but would really break the smooth running of my PC? Thanks!

I know and admit I stuffed up.

One day a long time ago I was prompted for my master password.

When I clicked in that area/field a requester popped up asking me to pick a colour. Confused I picked one - and a bad one I now see.

So now when certain parts of a web page are opened the background colour is this horrible colour and I can't really read what is there.

I don't understand what I did or HOW I did it.

This is a cropped example of the bad contrast I am seeing.

As I said, I admit I stuffed up. But this seems to all have happened since that one time with the main password requester.

Every time I enter a web address in the address bar, up pops two desktop options (even though I do not have my extra monitor connected any longer). I have to manually click on the desktop I want. Only then can I complete typing in the address. This is driving me crazy. I have turned off all 'suggestions' settings that I can possibly think of. I can find no way to turn this off. This never happened in any previous version of Firefox.

Hopefully this is the appropriate place to ask. Javascript just doesn't seem to work for temporary extensions. When I couldn't get my own extension to work, I tried to follow the tutorial in "Your second extension" (link) and it also just doesn't work. HTML and CSS load just fine but it's none functional. I can't even get a simple log out to console.

I just updated to Windows 11 a few days ago. Is it possible there is some setting I changed a long time ago that is causing this behavior?

This was the original thread <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1363425#answer-1471931>

In short, to summarize the original issue, one day after clearing my 'recent history' 100% once, gmail.com never ever became autofilled again. I can't get it to show up, no matter what.

I even refreshed firefox, still didn't help, sadly. The only thing left is to uninstall FF but that's a headache I don't want to do. and there's no guarantee that it would work.

Tried disabling all my extensions except for the most obviously fine ones like momentum. Didn't seem to help. <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1176553> This guy had the EXACT same problem I had. So I followed through these suggestions. Didn't help.

1. Does anyone know what the right keywords for this would be if I want to google others who have similar issues? Looks like I can only just hope other people have the solution. But I've googled things like firefox not suggesting history in omnibox search. Hasn't come up with anything that worked yet.

These types of answers are unacceptable as "Help", just sayin. "I'm wondering WHY you want to use magnet links for (besides the obvious reason of torrenting)."

The reason why someone would want to do something isn't of your concern, really. However, WHY someone would want to set a particular application of launching magnet links, without having to search on help forums to find something hidden in about:config is because not everyone wants to install a list of 3rd party programs to a Windows installation. Nor CAN everybody install such things. So what some people do is use "Portable Apps." When this is done, firefox isn't going to become aware that this type of program CAN be used on the Windows install in question, because it's not actually installed.

Why is there not an "Add" option for the "Applications" list in the settings panel? That makes no sense. Essentially what's been done here is that Firefox says "I'll only interface with programs that are fully installed on this machine, and to hell with your portable apps."

I realize that there is a growing trend of adding bumpers and safety pads to everything in the world, but people really can take care of themselves. I also realize that there has been this trend where FireFox devs have been taking what users actually like/want and ignoring it. Which is unfortunate.

I'm not actually going to come back here and read anything said back to me. I've already used the hidden method of fixing my problem. My reason for typing this is that I think there should be an ability to add app associations to that list.

network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet bool == true

I have a new installation of Firefox on a new M1 MacBook Pro. I copied over carefully selected settings files from my old computer, and now several icons are missing from the drop-down search and address boxes. I attempted renaming several of my transferred files to see if Firefox would rebuild them and correct the problem without success. Reinstalling Firefox was likewise unsuccessful. Does anyone know how to restore them? Please see attached image. Thank you.
