I want to use the same profile for different computers as I require syncing but would like to have different shortcuts as the computers have different default use. I could not find anyway to customise this for more than my main computer. Is this even possible?

I have a Firefox setup on my Linux Machine with all my information: Bookmarks, theme, etc. However, when I add a new Firefox Profile on my Mac and use the same account I use for Firefox Sync on my Linux, the fresh new configuration on my mac takes over the configuration I had on my Linux. It means my Linux Machine lost all bookmarks, themes, and settings I had previously and became a fresh profile like the one on Mac.

Is that an expected behavior? I expected my Linux configuration set up the Firefox Mac account.

Homepage changing when a new device syncs; Where does "default" setting some from?

This has been bothering me for a while, but with the start of a new semester and working on many different machines, it's been happening a lot more frequently. Let me explain:

Problem: My homepage for a new window will seemingly at random change to a file in `file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html` despite my profile having a setting for `browser.startup.homepage` to be `about:home`.

Expected Behavior: I set my homepage to `about:home` and this is respected by the system and does not change.

After some digging, I've tracked down the cause (but not the issue) Steps to reproduce: 1) On my linux desktop (Rocky Linux 8.5 -- a RHEL clone; KDE; Firefox 91.13) I set `browser.startup.homepage` to be `about:home` 2) On a Windows machine (I'm not 100% certain if I can replicate with other non-Windows systems) open firefox and login to my firefox account and run a sync. 3) Back on my linux box, when I open a new window, the homepage has changed to no longer be `about:home`.

What seems to be happening is that a sync will simply delete the `browser.startup.homepage` preference line entirely from the `prefs.js` file for my profile.

On the Windows machines (I have not checked macs, or ubuntu boxes I use), the "default" homepage setting (i.e., what happens when the `browser.startup.homepage` line is deleted from the prefs.js file) goes to `about:home`. On my Rocky Linux box, the "default" setting seems to be inheriting the homepage from a file named `all-redhat.js`. Or at least, I think that's where this comes from.

My temporary solution is to: > In about:config try toggling the preference services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.homepage to false on the laptop / desktop devices. (from: https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1273715 )

I'm guessing this will work for now.

However, my actual question is to track down how these default settings are coming from!

On the linux box, in the directory `/usr/lib64/firefox/defaults/` I have `pref/channel-prefs.js` and `preferences/all-redhat.js`. There is no `mozilla.cfg` or really any way I see that `all-redhat.js` is loaded. The `all-redhat.js` file does have a pref setting for the `browser.startup.homepage` to set it to be `data:text/plain,browser.startup.homepage=file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html`.

The windows boxes are a little different in that they do have a mozilla.cfg that gets explicitly loaded and in the mozilla.cfg sets a homepage in a similar way. However, the behavior, as described above, is different. The `about:home` seems to be a default, despite the homepage setting in mozilla.cfg.

What I'd like to know is: What is the loading priority of these config files, and how is the best way to setup a system that behaves consistently across OSes? While syncing works great for the most part, trying to understand the mechanics of the preference/profile loading is really making me scratch my head! Does redhat (and its clones) just do things differently?

I was away from my desktop for a few months. During that time, I sent a number of tabs from Firefox on Android to my desktop. I've just logged into my desktop, updated Firefox, and synced, and 0 tabs came through. There were some errors in about:sync-log, which I don't see a way to attach, but here are some representative lines: 1662515573549 Sync.Status DEBUG Status.service: success.status_ok => error.login.failed 1662515586056 Sync.Telemetry ERROR Notification for engine tabs but it isn't current

Is there any way to get those tabs back?

I did check in the Bookmarks --- Manage Bookmarks --- Restore. There are no backups visible there from time before password reset. Thank you

Hello, i'm trying to import all my configuration from Chrome to Firefox. Using the Regular Menu, Firefox only Imports History and Cookies. I Tried about:config that unlocked a feature to upload a .csv file (Chrome allow exporting Passwords)

Firefox is not importing them, This issue happens in Both Windows and Linux. I use Manjaro that is Arch Based, both Chrome and Firefox are DEV Versions, but even the Regular ones doesn't work.

Does is possible to Mozilla Fix this?

I've logged into my firefox sync account ok, but it then won't let me change my old password. I tried deleting my sync account so I can start again but it won't let me do that either. Although I logged in ok (so the password must be correct!), for both of the above it says my current pasword is wrong!

I've tried deleting a secondary email address (as I no longer use it), using 'private window' mode, 'Troubleshooting mode', and I've also turned off AVG just in case that was interfering, but I still get the same error.

I want to change my password as it's 8yrs old and I'm setting up a new install of Win 10. I don't care if I lose anything currently saved on firefox sync as I have a local copy.

Please help. thanks.

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I have 4 devices and have a lot of websites in the Top sites all pinned on all 4 rows and recently added another device but the home screen Top Sites are not being syncing across devices. Are pinned top sites no longer synchronising across devices?

It's time consuming adding and changing on all 4 devices.

This is a burner account, obviously because I can't access my "main" account.

I haven't used Firefox since 2020-ish and I felt like I wanna come back to see if it's better than my current browser, but when I tried logging in, it asked for my 2FA code, I do not have that anymore, I have the Authenticator app from Google but I must've deleted Firefox after not using it. Now I looked into how to find the recovery code or whatever the hell it's called, but that I also can't find whether it be in files for a real old notebook.

Is there any possible way to find this code or change it? I don't care about all the information on said account if it gets deleted or not. I just hope to get access to this "main" account so I don't have to continue using a burner.

-Thanks, Random Guy on The Internet.

Last time I used sync I got annoyed that it overwrite my setting when I logged in every time I got logged out. The solution was to create a new account every time I got logged out.

Is there a way to login without erasing my current data? I first used it when it first released so it may have changed? Can I choose if I want to download or upload my current settings? And I really don't want 10 year old data.
