Hi, every time I open Firefox on a Mac I get a dialog asking me to "Finish installing Firefox", which will apparently add Firefox to /Applications and Dock.

The sysadmin who manages my Mac asked me to install Firefox into /Users/<user>/Applications instead of /Applications, and I do not have permission to install anything into /Applications anyway, so I cannot finish the installation. I already put Firefox into my Dock manually, so I don't need this dialog to do it for me.

The update window also says "This update requires administrator privileges", which should not be needed to update an app in /Users/<users>/Applications, but it looks like Firefox is trying to install updates into /Applications and failing because it does not have permission.

Is there any way to get rid of this dialog, and have Firefox work from /Users/<user>/Applications? Thanks.

Until recently, I was able to look at my bank account and also access videos on manflowyoga.com. However, I can no longer put in the info needed for my bank access without it getting stuck. I also click on video on manflowyoga and it plays for 1 second and then doesn't work anymore. Yesterday I got one of the videos to work, but then it didn't today. The vids work on Edge as does my bank account. I have had the same add-ons for months - unhook, adblocker ultimate, Blocktube options, privacy badger, ,decentalyse, leech blocker. I have tried going into troubleshoot mode, but the problem persists, I have emptied my cache and cookies -same problem.

Since the last Firefox update, I can't download anything, not even the Windows updates! I notice that many others are having the same problem. I can download everything using the Microsoft Edge browser so I will probably stop using Firefox unless you come up with a fix soon. This is a major problem!

build command just compiles everything. install command installs Firefox on local machine (for all users). package command creates an isolated all-in-one archive from which Firefox can be run (including all libraries, at least that what I think it is). I don't know what artifact command does, but I think it's not it. Is there any command that can produce .deb file (which can be easily installed in one command)? My only hope right now is to copy whatever mach install is doing (all necessary folders etc.) and bundle everything in a custom archive. The main problem is the ginormous size of 32 GiB after build is complete. (I can't archive that and use as a portable installer/builder, which indeed would be very convenient but the size…)

Hi

The install fails 3/4 along the install bar. Firefox was removed from programs and apps but a few folders left behind, but I have removed them from the program files, appdata and maintenance folders. This has happened since the MS ASR bug on the 14/1/23.

Firefox Update "Install Pending"?

So yesterday I installed the latest Firefox update (version 109.0), made sure I had a good internet connection and didn't have multiple profiles open (only my default one) when I did. I checked today and it says my Firefox is up to date but that the update install is still pending. I checked online to see if anyone else had this problem and I saw someone say to try to uninstall and reinstall Firefox so I did that and got the newest version, put back all my data. I check and it says I'm up to date but the update install is still pending. When I open another profile after reinstalling it says that "Firefox is being updated by another instance" which is most likely my default profile, but the thing is I installed the new version 109 from the website itself?

Is it supposed to take super long or something? This never happened before. I'm using a Macbook Air 64-bit by the way.

So I don't know what to do or if there is anything to do. I just want to know and be sure. Is this okay? Is it not a big deal, just some error or bug that will be fixed in time? Will it be fixed over time or when I get a new update after on top of that? Or should I do something? Please help me.

Thanks

Tenable scans are showing multiple versions of Firefox on the same host. I was going to push updates to the devices, which i would assume would udpate the "Program Files" copy, but what about user's personal copies? how do i get them to pull updated copies from Program Files or from the internet, especially if they are older versions.

Example:

Path  : C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

 Installed version : 106.0.1
 Path              : C:\Users\Davidl.wine\AppData\Local\Mozilla Firefox
 Installed version : 89.0.1

How to extract only installable part after building Firefox from source?

After downloading about 10 GiB of source code and then building another 15 GiB, to install Firefox you need to use `./mach install` or more correctly: alias install='sudo sh -c "export MOZBUILD_STATE_PATH=$HOME/.mozbuild; ./mach install"'

But to re-install Nightly Firefox on the freshly installed (even the same) OS I will have to either save 25 GiB of source+build (+.mozbuild and other stuff) or to redo everything from scratch (needs at least 1h 20m). I'm having a hard time understanding all the abstractions and redirections from `./mach install` (and Makefile from ./obj-*/ which is automatically generated) to reconstruct a minimal set of things to install Firefox.

I need a bundle of files+dirs which is enough to install everything system-wide for Firefox to work properly. Maybe even simply run `./mach install` in this "minimal build installation" (if possible).

P.S. I'm using Debian based distro(s).

I just updated Firefox to version 109. Every single thing that I liked about Firefox is now GONE. Options are GONE. Customizing the toolbar - GONE. Adding toolbars - GONE!!! It lost my open tabs. It won't show the LastPass icon in the toolbar like it used to, so I have to hunt for it now. All my toolbar settings - GONE!

Mozilla - you really should WARN people BEFORE they update that the update is a major overhaul. Why would you just make yourself another Chrome? If I wanted to use Chrome, I would (and I probably will now), but I prefer Firefox - at least I DID prefer Firefox before this update. I do not understand why you completely RUINED Firefox! This update is horrible and I have now lost a full day at work trying to FIX this clusterf**k of a browser mess that you have made for me! For the life of me I do not understand why you took away the ability for the user to make Firefox more user-friendly. Before, I could choose to customize if I wanted to, or not to customize. Now I have no choice and am stuck with the way YOU want it. Well, I don't like the way you want it! I liked it the way I had it customized! I am so stinking furious with you right now! I will be reverting to the prior version and will then search for a new browser. I am really sick of companies taking away things that make their products better. Congratulations, Firefox - you are now Chrome's Clone.

Firefox Profile Lost in Upgrade

Hi,

I have just upgraded to the newest version of Firefox in the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Repository. I'm running LXLE Linux, a Debian derivative.

I ran

sudo apt-get update

to update my sources, and then ran

sudo apt-get upgrade

to execute the system upgrade.

After I upgraded, I started Firefox, and all my history over 6 months, my passwords, and my profile settings were obliterated to a stock Firefox install.

How do I access my old information? I have lost passwords. I cannot access business information or email. I have tried searching for profiles using about:profiles, but I have only one - the default. I have also searched in the .mozilla/firefox folder in my home directory, and I find profiles.ini in that folder. However, there are only two profiles, and I tried setting Default=1 for each of them and then starting Firefox, but with no different result. The new installation of Firefox launches.

In my /home/deadpool/snap folder, I have firefox, and multiple versions, or so it seems. I have this:

deadpool@deadpool-pc:~/snap/firefox$ ls 2263 2277 common current deadpool@deadpool-pc:~/snap/firefox$ ls -lah total 20K drwxr-xr-x 5 deadpool deadpool 4.0K Jan 31 12:29 . drwx------ 10 deadpool deadpool 4.0K Jul 31 2022 .. drwxr-xr-x 4 deadpool deadpool 4.0K Jan 10 2020 2263 drwxr-xr-x 4 deadpool deadpool 4.0K Jan 31 12:29 2277 drwxr-xr-x 4 deadpool deadpool 4.0K Jan 10 2020 common lrwxrwxrwx 1 deadpool deadpool 4 Jan 31 12:29 current -> 2277 deadpool@deadpool-pc:~/snap/firefox$

It looks like there is a symlink for current to the 2077. I would hypothesize that if I set the symlink to 2263, I would see my old firefox install. Is that correct? I don't want to break my install or lose data. I'm sick of that shit.

Thanks, Nathan

Details of my setup: Chromebook Laptop - IdeaPad Flex 3i Chromebook (15” Intel) Operating system: Chrome OS Mozilla Firefox version: Firefox, v109. 0.1
