I have about 30 messages in my Thunderbird inbox, but when I backup my profile it backs up some 700 messages, most of which were deleted long ago. Clearly deleting them doesn't actually delete them at all. How do I solve this please? Any ideas?

I've just upgraded to Tbird 102.15.1 and I've noticed that PDF attachments now open in a new tab (ie, in the same way that a new email would open in a new tab). Previously, they opened separately in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Is this a new Tbird feature? Can it be turned off (ie, revert to the previous method) and , if so, how?

Appreciate any help to understand this.

Massive memory usage

I have a HUGE problem with Firefox memory usage. Some open instances of firefox are taking anywhere from 600mb to 2.8gb of memory. Since firefox opens MANY instances even… (ďalšie informácie)

I have a HUGE problem with Firefox memory usage. Some open instances of firefox are taking anywhere from 600mb to 2.8gb of memory. Since firefox opens MANY instances even with only ONE active window, this very quickly uses all available memory (4gb) causing a full laptop crash.

More concerning is that CLOSING the worst instance of memory usage STILL leaves the single open page/tab open, so what exactly was the memory eating instance actually doing ???

I have included a screengrab of the many remaining instances of firefox in windows task manager AFTER closing the main culprit.

I have also included a screengrab of all the adblockers I use which I believed would limit unnecessary memory usage, but does not seem to be effective.

I downloaded mails from my imap server to desktop and deleted them from the server. To see them when I am not at home I wanted to import them in the TB app.

I installed the app, used the QR code from TB desktop to import the data and inserted my password. After importing I only see mails from my imap server but no mails which are only stored in the TB desktop.

Why? Is there a way to import these mails in the app too?

This morning I went to check my email on gmail, and google asked me to sign in again. Easy, I thought. I entered my account, and then google asked for my passkey. Until this morning this meant that on my mac it would ask me to place my finger on the right key on the keyboard. This morning it just froze firefox indefinitely. I then tried on Safari, and it worked as expected. I checked the version of firefox: it's 136.0.1. Obviously something changed (i.e. broke!) with the new version. Has anybody else experienced this? Any suggested fixes?

1st I am 90 yrs old. Been using this app since it was created. Never a problem until these new updates.

Was trying to delete old file (like the old program (block and hit delete). Found some message about deleting Trash folder and things I did not and do not understand. I now have LOST all my data, emails, addresses, everything.

I tried deleting the program and downloading a new copy. Did not work.

App Will not let me create an account. It keeps searching forever and have to cancel. App can't find my google password and just locks up. I only have two gmail addresses. I can access them by going to gmail.com but all my folders are not there. I need HELP please.

I can't even update my address file at the gmail site as I have no access to anything from TB. I am a research genealogist and now have lost all my saved research information.

I Have Thunderbird 137.0.2 running on Win11

When saving an attachment and navigating to target folder for save, no files in the target folder on the local PC are displayed.

This is not the case when looking for an attachment to send, only when saving attachment. I have another instance of a slightly older release of Thunderbird on a Win10 PC that behaves the same. Anu Ideas?

After a recent update to Thunderbird 128.9.2esr on April 17, 2025, I am unable to login to my gmail accounts through Thunderbird. Login to server pop.googlemail.com with user name *********** failed

I can login to my email accounts fine using gmail but not with Thunderbird. I have tried a number of fixes I found on the internet at the link below but nothing seems to be solving the problem.

Unified inbox shows 2 identical messages for each on retrieved by IMAP for all 4 of my accounts.

Thunderbird 128.9.1esr (64-bit) [Linux Mint] retrieves messages from my 4 email accounts (2x gMail & 2x Yahoo-based). It then displays each email retrieved TWICE. In the past, Left-Clicking on Unified Inbox | Properties then the [Update] button would "single-up" the list into a 1-for-1 relationship. I then sort my mail MANUALLY into local folders or delete unwanted in order to keep my inbox "zero'd".

After my recent Linux Mint 22.1 update, this no longer works and I need to close and re-open Thunderbird to get any "ghost" messages that I haven't sorted or deleted to disappear.

I am sure that I have something configured incorrectly but I can't seem to find it. None of the 4 accounts is "aware of" or forwarding to or retrieving from any of the others - they are totally independent. Yet I get duplicated emails from all 4. Using Browser-based mail client, none of them have duplicated stuff anywhere that I can find.

What documentation should I provide? Thanks.
