I keep getting Script Unresponsive error. Firefox is completely unusable now. I am currently typing this on Chrome. Please help!
I am a loyal user of Firefox, having been using it since Firefox 3, but if this problem continues I am going to delete Firefox and move on to other pastures. When asked if this a new question that has been answered already, I lied and said yes it was a new question. I have seen multiples of this same question and the answers have all been the same. The thing is though, I open Firefox and then I try to do anything and it gives me the unresponsive script and freezes up!
It started as a simple irritant yesterday and has progressed to a full out shutdown of Firefox. I can't do anything with it, including solve the flipping problem! I think the only reason I will continue to try to use this useless piece of FAIL is because it has my bookmarks on it and it will be an extreme pain to find them all again and remark them on a different browser... On that note does anyone have any recommendations for a good browser that is NOT Internet Explorer?

After some Windows updates, my Firefox suddenly was crippled with hangs that eventually culminated in the script stop/continue dialog. The only effective workaround was to disable Flash, or less drastically, to disable its protected mode feature. The following pages provide different ways to do that:
- Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
- Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078
It's exactly the same for me. I have tried disabling FLASH for some time as a work around, but now the issue isn't just FLASH related. It happens EVERY PAGE EVERY TIME. It is so incredibly annoying. I've also looked at dozens of solutions posted and TRIED THEM ALL without success. Firefox has become a total fail. I also tried switching completely to Chrome, but it uses so much memory everything just lags. This issue has been going on for such a long time, it's ridiculous!
Hi redfoxlox, if I understand your message correctly, this is not a new issue for you with last week's release of Firefox 27, but something you've been struggling with this through several versions?
Have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode as a test to see whether one of your extensions might be causing the problem? Safe Mode deactivates extensions, and also turns off a few advanced features and customizations.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash will still be available)
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)
Any difference?
You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
jscher2000 - I have already done the "safe mode" work a few different times with no improvement. I have also tried the "reset Firefox" feature.
cor-el - I have not tried setting up a new profile, but will certainly give it a shot and post the results.
Thank you both for your suggestions.
I set up a new profile, which hung up on the very first attempt to use it. Same issues. Uggghhh!!!
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

While operating in Safe Mode, I got an unresponsive script warning on Firefox after about 2 minutes...
