more options

Download the new/latest Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop from : http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

1.Uninstall your current Firefox version.

2.Don't remove personal data when you uninstall the new/latest version.

3.Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that new/latest downloaded Firefox copy, see : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox

(Is important to delete the program folder to remove all files and to be sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after the uninstalling.Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data, but be sure that you don't select to remove it.)

4.Install the new/latest Firefox copy.

Is Firefox crashing and sends a crash report or is Firefox only hanging and no longer responding?

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open this page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

ytimg.com is a YouTube-related domain.

If you think Flash might be involved, try the following extension which will block Flash until you allow it on a page or site.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/flashblock/

Could you try running in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any more stable?

Safe mode does not automatically disable plugins. If you want to rule some of those out as well, you can disable them here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category

Firefox's Safe Mode works with YouTube but in regular mode Firefox hangs?

Safe Mode disables extensions. Can you make an exception for youtube.com and ytimg.com in AdBlock just in case that is conflicting?

One of the other differences between Safe Mode and regular mode is the following: hardware graphics acceleration. You can disable that in Firefox, and also in Flash if desired.

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart (this is ):

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

Hi krazything, I know this is frustrating. Some of this is a repeat, but to assemble it all together:

Because it works in Safe Mode, the two chief suspects for the crash/hang are:

(1) Use of hardware acceleration of graphics

This is easily disabled in normal mode in Firefox, and also in the Flash player itself (please do both).

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

(2) Conflicting Extension

You can review/disable extensions here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

One of the major differences between Flash 11.3 and later compared with earlier versions is "protected mode." This can be disabled.

See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

Could you open the about:crashes page, click the fresh crash to make sure it has been transmitted to the Mozilla crash stats server, and then post that ID number in a reply here?
