yellow parenthesis with a crown (I think it's a crown, not sure) in it, to the left of the earth icon
I hope my laptop is covered under this category. I didn't see one for laptop, so I chose desktop.
I don't recognize this icon, , I tried to download a Win rar app earlier. Norton said it was safe, but when I opened Mozilla two new windows would load right away with pop up type advertising. I was sure that the winrar program loaded things I didn't authorize. I set everything back to an earlier date with a system restore, I uninstalled firefox, and google, then I downloaded firefox again, fully expecting my bookmarks etc... to be gone, but when I re-installed firefox it loaded back exactly as before I uninstalled it and google. I don't recognize this yellow parenthesis with what looks like a crown inside. The only change is that the pop up pages seem to have stopped.

That's been marked = Solves the problem to the right-of the solution, until it is marked. Being that your solution was to reset Firefox, I noted that and marked that as the solution, earlier this morning.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.
Is this on the about:home page?
Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

I just thought I sent this, I hope I'm not sending it again, this is all new to me
I'm not recognizing this icon.
Does that icon have a tooltip if you hover?
Is there any text that appears when you hover over that yellow/gold icon?
I wonder if that is related to the Symantec Intrusion Protection extension?

I will remove the other two images.

Received a PM from mtmturpin - he reset Firefox to solve this issue
Again, I want to apologize if I missed something, I did send an email to one person telling him that his suggestion he sent me got rid of the icon. I just got an email saying I need to check a box, "problem resolved", I am looking for it; have not found it yet. Thanks so much for everyone help. I learned a few things, if I can just remember them.
