I have designated files in excel to open in open office cal under Tools, Options, applications but each time i want to open an excel file I still get the message box of that says "browse" and have to go to the open office, programs, etc. Why isn't working?

Hi,
Please try deleting the in mimeTypes.rdf the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox. You can also open the profile folder via Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder, and exit Firefox. The file will be recreated at the next Firefox startup.

I did what you suggested but I'm not sure if it worked or not. When I click to download a file and I get the "you have chosen to open ...." message box, the browse button is still next to "open with". But if I press the OK button it does open the file in open office calc. I didn't try this before using your suggestion, so it could have helped or not.

The application chosen is correct in Tools/Options/Applications. It just doesn't show in the dialogue box, but works if I just click on OK.
Can you also please attach a screenshot: Add images: below Post a Reply on this page.
Had to learn how to do that. Hope it works
No idea why it's like this. I could be wrong but I think one or two weeks back I had read in a mail list or RSS about a minor issue regarding the OO Firefox plugin. I searched, but couldn't find anything regarding this. Please also check in a new profile. You can also try to temporarily deactivate and re-enable the plugin via the OO options.
Thanks for all your help. At least it works, if not correctly.
No problem :)
