A few of the websites I visit use flash popups to alert me when I have a new message in my inbox. When this happens, if I'm doing something else, my browser window will become active, interrupting what I was doing. How do I make this stop?

Certain sites use Flash to pop up an alert within the tab that's already open for that site. Anytime this happens and Firefox is running in the background (for example, Firefox is running but I'm watching a movie), my browser becomes the active window instead of whatever I was doing. I'm running Mac OS X Lion, and both my operating system and Firefox are fully up to date.
