Hey! :)
Firstly, could you let us know the following things:
- Where did you download the firefox binary from?
- Does Puppy Linux have a package manager? (I think I remember it doesn't..)
- Have you tried installing from here?
Puppy linux uses a different type of packaging system than other Linux distros (.pet s)
Hi thanks for reply - your install link doesn't work for me. I downloaded from the firefox website. Puppy does have a package manager, but I can't get it to work. A package downloads OK, and appears in the menu, but nothing happens when I click on it. Not very technically minded with Linux, so I'm struggling! I just wanted to keep my browser up to date. Cheers
Okay, I'm not that familar with Puppy Linux.
It seems you could start by reading this?
In the mean time, I will rally up some people who know Puppy like the back of their paw.
Could I have:
- The version of Puppy you're using
Do you know how to use the Puppy Package Manager? Apparently it's easier to install ff from there?
You can also try this, then extract it by clicking on it once, and then click on start script
Does this help? :)
Hi - thanks for the replies - I've just got back in. Pup version is 4.3.1. The only link that works on here is the Puppy forum, which I'll start reading now. Many thanks for your efforts so far - I must get up to speed a bit more on Linux...
If you're still having trouble, try asking in their chatroom - they're probably the best suited people to ask about this issue, due to the fact it's technically not a firefox issue... :)
As soon as you've got it working, could you mark this as solved?
Hi - tried some PET downloads - puppy refused to start afterwards! Had to use a backup to restore. I think I'll leave this project until I get to know Linux better. Thanks again for your help, but as you say this is a puppy problem, not firefox. Back to the forum.... Cheers.
http://www.linux.com/ and http://www.linuxformat.com/ are really good sources of information regarding Linux :)
Could I recommend getting used to Ubuntu first, and then moving to Puppy? Linux is all about choice though, so it's entirely up to you! :)
Enjoy Linux and I hope you can enjoy Firefox as soon as possible! :)
Hi - just found a new release of puppy - "wary puppy" - which has the latest firefox on it, so I guess that's the way to go. It seems easier to just update the whole op. system when the browser goes out of date! Cheers.
