Text styled to indent in FrontPage is flush left. Explorer can display properly. Why can't Firefox get it right? Would really like an answer to this!

I didn't mean to post a reply to my own question, and I can't seem to get rid of it. This is the LEAST intuitive Support site I have ever encountered.!

Can you attach a screenshot for comparison?

I'm on Linux, so can't compare it how it looks in IE.

If you made changes recently then try to clear or bypass the cache.

You can reload the page and bypass the cache with:

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

I did clear the cache. How do I attach a screen shot? Tried opening the worst page in FF, pressing Ctrl + F5 or shift = R but nothing at all seems to happen. What's the Reload button?

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screenshot

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Make sure that you choose an unique name for the image to avoid problems (an image with the same name may already exist). There should be a delete X on the image if the image is uploaded correctly.

I still can't do this. Got a screen shot and it's on the clipboard, but Save As at any stage does not give me JPG or PNG as an option. It appears to be saved as a Web page, and neither Paint nor Photoshop will open it. So I don't know how to get it here. I'm in Windows XP and Alt + Print Screen is how I got the shot.

I have NO idea what's going on here. When I double click on these uploaded images, which I saved as JPEGs somehow from the clipboard or DreamWeaver or something (can't seem to replicate it), I get a pretty full size image on screen. It is NOT the same as the screen shot I thought I was saving to the clipboard! It shows with the text below the subheads indented. When I open the page in FF, the text is NOT indented; it's all flush left.

The page: http://www.w75ba.org/newsbulletins.htm

If anyone can help with figuring out why FF will not display the indented style, I'd be grateful.

(Could it be only my computer that does this, and if so, have I got something wrong in FF settings?)

Many thanks.

You have errors in your CSS rules.
There shouldn't be a space between the number and unit: margin-left: 45 px -> margin-left: 45px There are several instances wher you have dont that and Firwefox ignore rules with such an error.

.text {font-family: Verdana; color: #000000; font-size: 10pt; line-height:150% text-align: left; margin-left 25 pt}
.indenttext  { font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt; text-align: left; margin-left: 45 px }

In styles.css it is even worse, no dot to indicate a classname, no colon separator and no unit (margin-left 50)

doubleindent { font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt; color: #800000; text-align: left; margin-left 50}

This rule starts with a '(' instead of '{':

indent ( font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10pt; color: #800000; text-align: left; margin-left 25}

So you need to check all CSS rules.

Thanks I'm obviously not technically savvy. Will go back into the original files and try to fix all this.

(Somewhat embarrassed!)

I made changes to css styles, and pages display properly in FF now. Still must review css rules because even though what I see is what I want, I'm not really sure why it's working now. Something to do with the stylesheet link and the styles below that line in the code that override the stylesheet. Am feeling like a Bear of Very Little Brain.

FrontPage is just about the worst program to use to create web pages that display uniformly in all browsers. It produces code that only IE understands, and to hell with the other 50% of site visitors using other browsers.

I hate FP; have DreamWeaver, and started to redo this site with it, but ran into a big problem on http://www.w75ba.org/photogalleries.htm

DW won't do photo galleries; you have to buy Fireworks ($300) to do them.

Well, I'm pushing 80, living on a low fixed income, and I can't afford that. This site is for my neighborhood NYC block association, a nonprofit volunteer group with not a lot of $$, so they can't afford it either. (They paid for the DW, and that was a stretch.)

Obviously I'm not swift enough in CSS (all that I do in web design is self taught) to bypass FP and start again doing it all in CSS, without a web design program.

Any thoughts? If I could create an acceptable alternative to the photogalleries page in DW without Fireworks, I'd dump FP in a New York minute!

Thanks to all for the tremendous help you've been! I'm really, really grateful!

I neglected to mention: the only browsers I have are IE 7, FF, and Opera. Can I use Safari on a PC (I thought that was only Mac). How would I test the site in other browsers? (Not that I could solve problems there if I'm stuck with FP.)

more options

Do not forget to add units (px) to the margin settings. Leaving them out can have unexpected side effects. Don't put a space between the value and the unit (25px).
