What's the meaning of the MD5 hash in the 'general' tab when viewing certificate?

When viewing the certificate while visiting a website using a HTTPS connection, the 'general' tab shows an MD5 and SHA-1 hash. I find this quite strange (misleading) since the certificate has only been signed with a SHA1 hash.
