OK, I have Uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, but the problem persists. I also found a solution at some other forum, where they suggested deleting the downloads.rdf (downloads.sqlite for Firefox 3.6.8 and above), file, restarting the Firefox, and then changing the designated save folder for the downloads. I even tried that but that did not work either(not for me at least, as there are a few people on those forums that say that it fixed it for them).
Common people,, I have posted this problem, almost a week ago, and still not one person has responded back to it..what kind of support forum is this.
Thank you in advance for any help.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
First of all thank you for replying and trying to help.
OK. I followed your suggestions/Instructions. and created new profile. did not transfer any files to it. tried to download, still the same problem. then just to be safe, created another profile, and before downloading changed the downloads folder(just in case). and even that did not help, tried changing the options to ask me every time where to save. and that did not help either. so what do you suggest now?
thanks for your prompt response in advance.
I'm having this same issue. And since I'm lazy I just completely removed FF and reinstalled it and that didn't work for me either :(
This problem started right after I ran Speed up my PC by Uniblue >_<
Well I had this problem. Check in task manager if you have safesurf.exe running. It's some kind of virus/trojan. Try to remove it and you can download again!!!
Thank you so much verdan-deny...your suggestion really helped. I removed that safesurf.exe from the task manager(and from my computer). And now, I can Download in FF again. I just wanna ask you though, if removing that safesurf.exe file causes any other damages or malfunctions to the hardware/software or any other programs on my machine.
In the end, I would like to thank you again for your such helpful input.
Duuuude, thank you so much, i've been trying to figure this out for months!
Thanks a LOT!!!! removing safesurf worked for me.
