Refreshing Firefox resets the preferences. However, your bookmarks should have been preserved.
Anyway, the data shouldn't be wiped out completely, but instead placed in a folder named Old Firefox Data. See this article on how to restore the data, and this article to learn more about where the most important data is stored.
