Thunderbird isn't a mail system, it's just an interface to your mail system.

Thanks Ed for your message: I do NOT care what it is but - the MAIN HELP FOR ME is the following: can you help me to restore it because the crazy Yahoo-Servers are interfering with my trying to log-in into THUNDERBIRD therefore I'm able to SEND MESSAGES but I CAN'T RECEIVE THEM, I'm using THUNDERBIRD for MANY YEARS(!) and I like to using it for my Emailing - your further help would be greatly appreciated OR: could you Email me a SPECIFIC LINK which would eliminate this EXTREMELY ANNOYING INTERFERENCE by the Yahoo-Servers ...In advance - many thanks Ed for your further advice/help ...Tony H.

P.S.: Ed - and anyone willing to HELP, please also if you do know how to help - could Email me a link to any Mozilla-Tech who could have a more detailed knowledge how TO RESOLVE ANY OF THESE EXTREMELY ANNOYING ISSUES please ...! Many thanks ...Tony H.

What exactly is it that you perceive to be interference by Yahoo's servers? Would you please post a screenshot that shows the problem?

MANY thanks Rick for your offer to provide me HELP: the MAJOR interference by Yahoo's servers is that they are blocking me to LOG-IN INTO Mozilla-THUNDERBIRD - I consider this a discriminatory attitude of the YAHOO SERVERS because they do not ALLOWING ME, one of probably thousands of Mozilla paid-subscribers customers to use THUNDERBIRD I've selected as the Email-interface (!): if the YAHOO SERVERS are incapable to provide to Mozilla customers as EFFICIENT AND RELIABLE Mozilla THUNDERBIRD Email-interface but they certainly have NO RIGHT TO BLACK customers service who paid their monthly fees for Internet subscription. NOTE: I'm extending my right to use my objection to YAHOO SERVERS discriminatory attitude in case any of Mozilla customer/s have experienced their similar unsatisfactory service - THANKS FOR ANYONE TO PROVIDE MY SUPPORT in this issue ...!

Thunderbird users can use Yahoo e-mail. No one can help you if you do not provide information about your problem. Please post evidence of what you believe is interference.

Hi Rick - and all others: After 'marathon-efforts' using my PC - I was finally (from yesterday-Wednesday!) able to create an image of the Thunderbird messages-RECEIVING issue which I'm attaching in this message ...hopefully it has turned to be 'OK' (please let me know!) ... ADDITIONAL comments to help you -to 'really help me': I very appreciate your efforts BUT please understand my following very important points: - I want to use only Thunderbird as I've used for over 20 years for corresponding with many musicians-around-the world (!) and exchanging our creative projects, and Mozilla-Thunderbird is probably most-underestimated and very efficient Email-Program for writing very complex technical records in area of music compositions ... - I therefore do not want to use the inadequate Yahoo for Emailing so your most helpful advice from Mozilla Tech/Programmers and other experts to provide me with a simple setting-change of the interfering and evasive setting of Yahoo Servers by not allowing me to log-in to the effective Thunderbird Emailing-interface: it can not be anything 'too complicated' - and such a simple step would resolve this annoying issue of a huge amount of Mozilla customers which was described and supported already several years ago by one of Mozilla great and helpful Contributors Matt (from Australia) ...! In advance - many thanks for anyone who would offer their understanding in this issue - Tony H.

I understand what you want. You can have it if you help us focus on the problem.

Concisely stated: Your connection to the Yahoo server times out. Is that the problem? And it affects both your sending and receiving of messages or just one of them?

Please post a screenshot from account settings > server settings.

Please also post a screenshot from account settings > [click on the account name] > edit SMTP server.

Rick: As I've stated in my previous reply: - the Server 'timed out' error displays only in RECEIVING MESSAGES - I will try to create & send you the screenshot from account settings by [clicking on the account name] > edit SMTP server - and: what is caused and how to fix the collecting/receiving the messages in the incorrect Folder (trash) instead of in the 'INBOX'-Folder ? - this weird event never happened to me in working with computers in 30 years. In advance - thanks for your earlier advice, Tony H.

Hi Rick - I'm glad that I've successfully created and just now (06-13-2025) I'm able to send you the images you have requested: this message contains 3 images named with exact descriptions of the issues caused directly by Yahoo Servers and indicating their poor service quality provided and well-known for many years to a large Mozilla-loyal customers, who spent their substantial monthly fees - together with suffering many hours and days of frustration due to lost Internet services. Important note: all provided information is utmost scientifically created with my efforts offered with the only one purpose - to finally successfully resolve issues to achieve a complete use of my very important projects with the help of efficiently-designed Thunderbird Emailing capabilities. So - now here I'm attaching the 3 images.

Hello again.

May I share some tips for getting help on this forum?

  • Clearly communicate the facts of a problem.
  • Report one problem per thread.
  • Do not rant. And do not repeat rants.

Not following these tips makes people reluctant to help and it makes solving problems more difficult. I am spending much more time than I want to spend reading through repeated rants in several messages to try to pull out the information that is actually useful for solving your problems. So would you please just report facts and try to answer questions directly and completely?

Now, after twelve messages in this thread, I believe I understand that you have three problems:

  1. When Thunderbird tries to retrieve new messages, you see a message that the connection to the server timed out. This happens all the time and you never receive new messages.
  2. A window appears asking you to sign in to Yahoo.
  3. New messages in Thunderbird go to the trash folder instead of the in-box.

Is my understanding correct?

Also, your outgoing (SMTP) servers have some oddities, but, if are able to send messages, as you say you are, the oddities are not important. But you should be able to delete two of the servers if you are not using them, and you should put a description on the server that you are using.

PROBLEM #1: When does this error occur? Every time that Thunderbird tries to retrieve messages? There are many reasons for connection time-outs. I am no expert on them. One cause is a bad network. How well is your network performing? But I assume that this symptom is related to Problem #2.

PROBLEM #2: When does this window appear? What happens when you sign in to Yahoo?

PROBLEM #3: Do you access this account from any other app, webmail, computer, or your phone?

Can you access this account through webmail? Do sending and receiving work normally there?

Are you using anti-virus software, including the one provided with Windows, or other security software?

Is storing cookies in Thunderbird enabled? See general settings > privacy & security > Web settings.

Edits: fixed typos.

You seem to have a misunderstanding of what Thunderbird is and how it works and how this forum works. Your e-mail messages are never stored on any Thunderbird or Mozilla site. They are stored on the Yahoo servers and on your devices. No one here can access any e-mail account or messages of yours. Moreover, we are all users supporting each other. I have no authority from Mozilla.

I explain all this partly because it may help with what you perceive as a problem with Yahoo and what you call interference. You need Thunderbird and Yahoo to connect. A message from Yahoo that appears in Thunderbird is probably not a bad thing. It is probably a required thing.

But there is no reason why Yahoo would have anything to do with your posting messages here and it is very unlikely that they do.

And there is no place for draft messages to be saved here, so looking for what you lost will not help.

So please try again. Make sure that you are replying on this site, not in Thunderbird or in Yahoo webmail.

Here are my exact answers to your questions: PROBLEM #1: - this error occurs every time that Thunderbird tries to retrieve messages, and this failure occurred many times in past 3 years - in spite of many complaints of Thunderbird users and numerous requests for correct this fundamental failure of Yahoo Server/s and posted at Thunderbird Forum (!)

- my network is performing well, and this symptom is most like related to Problem #2: any similar problems by loosing Internet connection and malfunction of Thunderbird Email-interface is from 100% I've experienced in past 3 (and more) years are obviously caused by Yahoo because, as everyone knows, no Mozilla customers has any access to make any security Server settings on any Server/s ...! In addition, I have made, as many other Thunderbird users did, numerous requests for help and requested fixing these Yahoo Servers/s which provided Mozilla customers poor customers service - everyone could find many reviews and complains at most of the Mozilla Forums in regard to such annoying issues which are not very complex to repair once-for-all!

- in regard to the issue 'New messages in Thunderbird go to the trash folder instead of the in-box': this is clearly a fault of the Server staff obviously caused by Yahoo because (getting so 'mixed up?!?'), as everyone knows, no Mozilla customers has any access to make any security Server settings on any Server/s ...!

PROBLEM #2: this question has been partially answered in PROBLEM #1 - in the past (approx 2-3 years ago), Thunderbird users had been given chance by Yahoo to select to log-in to other Email-interface design than Yahoo (like Thunderbird!) which had completely resolved this never-ending issue, however, this possibility has been taken out - and it is absolutely appalling why Yahoo ignored this substantial amount of Thunderbird users who successfully might have used it for their projects for many years!

PROBLEM #3: Please be more specific as to what do you mean by I quote - 'Do you access this account from any other app, webmail', etc.?: I have another Internet connection with Gmail-Email opportunity to be only used for similar emergency situations (and any communication issues) where I, 'once-in-time' (e.g. last or previous years) have lost Emailing (like messages Receiving, OR Sending, and/or both Receiving & Sending), and some other Contributors has suggested to have such additional possibility.

- otherwise: I'm using anti-virus software provided with Windows Microsoft defender & Windows Firewall, Malwarebytes security software, and the storing cookies in Thunderbird is enabled. So Rick, her are all your questions answered in detail, and your earlier follow up would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Hi Tony,

Your ranting and the blaming are still making my work harder than it should be. I will not keep expending this effort indefinitely.

Other people use Thunderbird to access accounts hosted by Yahoo just fine and you should be able to also.

You did not answer perhaps the most imrportant questions: When does this window (the one about signing in to Yahoo) appear? What happens when you sign in to Yahoo?

Would you please answer?

It is possible that some of your problems would be fixed simply by signing in to Yahoo. My impression is that you perceive that window to be some kind of nefarious interference from Yahoo, so I'm guessing that you don't sign in. However, as I said before, Thunderbird needs access to Yahoo.

I asked: "Do you access this account from any other app, webmail, computer, or your phone?"

To explain: You have an e-mail account through Frontier.com that is hosted on Yahoo's servers. There are many ways to access that Frontier.com e-mail account and send messages from it and receive messages at it. One way is Thunderbird. Another way is another e-mail client application on your computer such as Outlook or another e-mail client application on your phone, including Thunderbird, if you use an Android phone. Another way is to log in to your account at Frontier.com from a Web browser and manage your e-mail through the browser. This last option is called webmail.

Do you access your Frontier.com e-mail account in any of these other ways?

I also asked: "Can you access this account through webmail? Do sending and receiving work normally there?"

Please log in to your Frontier.com account in a browser window, send an e-mail message to yourself, and see if it is sent and received.

Rick: Why you are always mainly accusing me by ranting and blaming for not answering your questions rather than providing me the effective and SPECIFIC HELP?!? - you keep asking me the same following questions again & again - which is just wasting my and your time (!):

1) Summary of your following questions: - Other people use Thunderbird to access accounts hosted by Yahoo just fine and you should be able to also. - You did not answer perhaps the most imrportant questions: When does this window (the one about signing in to Yahoo) appear? What happens when you sign in to Yahoo? - Would you please answer?

> my clear answers to your questions above are as follows:

- read properly my specific & exact explanations in PROBLEM1 - keep in mind: for many years I'm only using Mozilla Firefox and its Thunderbird using the same Email-address frontier.com for ALL my Internet connections.

2) Summary of your following questions: - It is possible that some of your problems would be fixed simply by signing in to Yahoo. My impression is that you perceive that window to be some kind of nefarious interference from Yahoo, so I'm guessing that you don't sign in. However, as I said before, Thunderbird needs access to Yahoo. - I asked: "Do you access this account from any other app, webmail, computer, or your phone?"

> my clear answers to your questions above are as follows:

- it is NOT possible as you stated by 'simply signing in to Yahoo' because I had obviously signed in to Yahoo hundred-of-times in the past 3-4 years of these Thunderbird-sign-in issues, and they do NOT offer the use of Thunderbird & its log-in issues (!). At the times when the Yahoo Server/s malfunctions (e.g. during a loss of Thunderbird Messages RECEIVING, SENDING or both), any of the Frontier.com functions may not work. - here again: read properly my specific & exact explanations in PROBLEM1, PROBLEM2 & PROBLEM3 please! - also: You've never answered my question - 'Please be more specific as to what do you mean by ...I quote: 'Do you access this account from any other app, webmail' ...!

- furthermore: as I've stressed, you are almost completely ignoring, my detailed descriptions of all the enormous time and efforts in the past approx 3 years which I, and numerous amount of Mozilla customers suffered by their lost of service caused by a poor quality and problems of Yahoo Servers that have been well-documented at Mozilla Forums - and the Thunderbird users had not received an adequate help!

In summary - if we review all your above questions, till now you have provided effective help in solving the Thunderbird-MESSAGES RECEIVING malfunctioning, because you only refuse caused by any fault by Yahoo SERVER/S yet - you have not provide me with any SPECIFIC ALTERNATIVE CAUSE to any of the following questions: - if Thunderbird RECEIVING MESSAGES are collected in 'Trash' instead of the default folder 'INBOX' and it is not' caused by Server/s - then what SPECIFICALLY is causing this malfunction?!? - Please answer the question! - if 'Other people use Thunderbird to access accounts hosted by Yahoo just fine and you should be able to also then why couldn't you provide me with the step-by-step guidelines?!?' - Please answer the question!

Hi Tony,

In response to a message that has not been published here yet ...

I already explained why I asked you to stop ranting.

I have not provided specific suggestions to fix your problems because I am still trying to understand your problems. A problem has to be understood and diagnosed before it can be solved. You have presented three problems in difficult to understand language. I cannot simply tell you how to fix all of them.

You did not answer my question about what happens when you sign in to Yahoo. Your repeated mention of Yahoo not offering the user of Thunderbird, whatever that means, suggests that you have misunderstood my question and that you may misunderstand the relationship between Thunderbird and Yahoo. I am talking about signing in to Yahoo when you that window appears. I'm not talking about signing in to webmail, if that's what you are thinking.

As I said twice already, Thunderbird works fine with Yahoo servers.

I did indeed answer your question about what I meant about accessing your account from other apps.

I am not ignoring what you are saying about Yahoo servers. I have even done research on them to try to figure out what the problem is. But I don't know what the issues are, and you have not told me in terms that make any sense to me. You just assume that I (and "everyone") know about some long-standing problem. The only problem I have been able to find on my own is that keeping a stored password for Yahoo in Thunderbird after Yahoo switched to Oauth for authorization may cause problems. So you might go into general settings > privacy & security > passwords > saved passwords and delete your Yahoo password.

(I also verified your server settings. They are correct. So they should not be the source of any problems.)

I don't know why your messages are going to trash instead of your in-box. I asked you to do a test at frontier.com to help us figure that out. Apparently, you did not do it.

I'm done trying to help. Good luck, Tony.
