I would like to save links from Firefox to safari reading list not a separate Firefox reading list in order to have only one reading list is this possible. I use a number of browsers which each have their benefits and some such as DuckDuckGo do allow this.

Different browsers have different reading lists which may not be possible to directly share. You may want to try the Pocket app - a reading list that can work across different web browsers and supports offline reading:

Yes thanks for thus, that may be a third party alternative but to have the option to change save list in browser would be nice.
