My husband was a long-time Firefox user and recently passed away. I am the sole beneficiary and executor of his estate and provide a copy of the will and death certificate if necessary. The issue here, is unlike me, I cannot find the Firefox account to sync his passwords to my machine. I do have access to his machine and could open each web site and copy the information to a spread sheet if necessary - but obviously not a great workaround. So is there any way to gain access to that password.

Now for the obvious question - it's just a matter of equipment: he used a trackball, I prefer my mouse and I am considerably more comfortable with the keyboard on my machine.

Any help you can offer would be very helpful!

Best regards! Loralie

Thank you @Dropa for your reply.

I had suspected that there was no way to get around the issue, but how would I know for certain if I didn't ask the question.

I have attempted to use the 'Solved' function from notification email but something appears to be blocking it. I will fight with that later, but wanted to reach out to say thank you for your assistance. Oh, and I did correctly guess the password. No idea why I didn't think of it sooner

Best regards! Loralie

Hi Loralie, what data is most important to recover?

If you can start Firefox on his system, it's not too difficult to grab selected files. I guess the tricky part is how best to use them on your computer without wiping out your data. But there is a feature to help with that, which is to create a second profile.

Here are a couple articles for background, but we can help with more detailed steps depending on how much you want to transfer:

I should mention that you can export passwords to a readable file (CSV format), but there is a bug in Firefox 104 that prevents importing it, so it would be only for reference:

Thank you @jscher2000,

The login information was the most important part. For those individuals for which I had a phone numbers, I notified within days of his death. Once I properly guessed the password I found two others who have now been advised via email. I know there are others and some business partners.

The websites themselves were easy - I created an account on my machine that matched one he was using. I then copied the user's profile from that machine to mine. Not only did all the bookmarks copy over but any other data that is part of the Microsoft profile.

Thank you for the information on exporting data! I can use that csv to not only keep track of password changes, but those site accounts that I have closed. I know he would want this done.

Thanks again, Loralie
