Issues with Yahoo Mail tab CLOSING after download

more options

Since the most current Firefox update in June 2022, when in Yahoo Mail and downloading an attachment, as the download complete, the Yahoo Mail tab is automatically closing, requiring I to go to 'History', then 'Recently Closed' tabs to re-open it. This happens Every.Single.Time I download photos and scanned docs from email. Again, this has never happened before - only with the recent Firefox update. I have 2021 a MacBook Pro.

I also have this problem with Firefox 104.0b4 (64 bit) under Ubuntu 20.04. It started randomly some time ago, but now it closes the yahoo mail tab every time after download an attachment.

I have this problem as well starting about a month ago. I restarted with no add ons running and the problem still exists. I even changed setting for downloads so none open automatically. So now I go to the download folder and open the attachment, any kind of attachment, and when I close the attachment window, yahoo mail closes. I've even gone to the mail tab while in the attachment, then closed the attachment and it still closes the yahoo mail tab. Not having the same problem on a Windows 10 Pro machine, but using a different yahoo email address so not exactly the same.

I am having this same issue. I noticed that when downloading multiple files in a row, I am able to get through 4 sometimes 5 downloads before it closes out so I tested it a bit. It seems that it closes out in about 30 seconds weather I download 2 files or 5 files. When I download only 2 files and then wait out that 30 seconds it closes. If I hurry and download 5 files, it closes after 30 seconds. It doesn't seem to be an issues with the number of files downloaded. I thought maybe it was seeing rapid downloads as spam or a security issue but downloading 2 files in 30 seconds shouldn't be an issue! This is a major problem for me because I take a lot of pictures of things to sell, then email them to myself and download them into organized folders so they are easy to find/access when creating postings to sell the items. I don't use chrome, I've been a die hard Firefox fan for at least 10 years now. Since yahoo is filled with spam and requires upgrading to Plus at $5 a month in order to block more than 3 domains.... I think I'm going to try Outlook. I have 5 emails... 3 gmail and 2 yahoo. If I can get them all set up in outlook, I'll go that route. Outlook is great for business but a bit overwhelming for personal use. This really bums me out! I've been such a big fan of Firefox and Yahoo but they have both let me down big time over the last few months. This is a known issue and has been happening for several months now. A few minutes ago I was alerted to update firefox and got all excited that maybe the yahoo issue was fixed in the update... but it wasn't :(

Can someone from Firefox at least acknowledge this issue? Is this even being looked at? Is this a FF issue or a Yahoo issue?

I am also having this issue. Every time I open a PDF attachment, when I close the attachment the tab shuts down. Please fix this!!

Same issue. Extremely frustrating. Takes FOREVER to download a small PDF and during the download process the Yahoo email TAB closes.

And...same issue. Mac OS 10.13.6 This has been going on for months. Why isn't it fixed?

Exact same issue. Fully updated Firefox, not using private browsing, double checked all my settings, turned all my extensions off, you name it, I've tried it, the Yahoo mail tab still closes automatically every. single. time. I. download. an. attachment. I have to download a lot of attachments for work. It's a real pain and it's right at the top of the list of issues that are keeping me from kicking Chrome to the curb for good.

Yes, I know ctrl+shift+t will get the tab back. That is not the point. The point is that we shouldn't have to do that because the tab should not automagically close itself when you download a file off it.

Ditto what everyone else said. I'm on an HP laptop running Windows 10. Everything's been fine since forever, and suddenly Firefox and Yahoo mail aren't playing well together. I also have other issues with mail, but that's a slightly different topic.

Same issue started in Aug 2022 for me and is still happening now in Dec 2022. Once in a while I will get a pop up window asking if I want to stay or leave the page, but for the most part it just shuts down the FF browser completely. Even when I click to stay on the page, it's only a temporary fix because a few downloads later it still shuts down. I have emailed yahoo support and their latest suggestion was to try a private window and disable all extensions. Neither fixed the issue. Since I use my email for work and open numerous pdfs throughout the day, I have had to revert to Google Chrome browser for any emails with pdfs. BTW, this also happens if I attempt to open video .mpeg files. Would love to know how to fix this so I can stick with the Firefox browser. I hate having to use google chrome.

This was yahoo's first response back in Aug (none of these steps fixed the problem):

Please follow the troubleshooting steps outlined in the email. After you complete each step, please test to see if the issue is still present.

Use these steps, starting with #1, then check if your problem is resolved before moving to the next step.

Clear your browser's cache. Try to use a different web browser. Update your browser. Restart your computer. Make sure that JavaScript is enabled. Disable browser enhancements. Temporarily disable antivirus, antispyware, and firewall products. See if the Yahoo service works from another computer or mobile device. Reset your browser to default settings.

If the issue still persists, please provide as much information as you can in your next reply.

Describe the steps you take leading up to the problem. How are you accessing mail when the problem occurs? Through your device’s Internet browser, through its default mail application, or through the Yahoo Mail app? How often does this issue occur? Are you getting an error message? If so, what does it say? Can you replicate this problem from a computer and/or mobile mail app? Please take a screenshot of your computer screen and attach it to your reply to this message.

And this was their last response in Sept (they haven't addressed this issue since):

The engineers have requested be done on your end to try and resolve the issue. You are using the latest version of the Firefox browser 104, can you try using a private window in Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/private-browsing-use-firefox-without-history

Also, can you please check the settings you have for PDF files: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-or-choose-another-viewer

Please let me know the results when you try these steps. Thank you for your patience.

Have a great day. Regards, Natalie Yahoo Customer Care
