hello there i have the following problem the company i work for has unistalled remotely firefox from my laptop, and i do not have any way to re-install it back i have managed in some way to obtain a copy of portable firefox on the same laptop since i was not informed about this process, i have not saved my password externally and unfortunately, i was not using a firefox profile

in few words: i do not have my passwords anymore

i have seen that in such folder: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

there are still saved three subfolders (one of them has the last modified date as 13th Sep, meaning today), therefore i think that my profile (and all relevant passwords) are still there somewhere

i would like to understand if and how i can import the passwords from the unistalled firefox in the portable firefox: i have already tried to copy those directories in: C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile

but no success, passwords are not importyed. please, i need help

thanks.

That was just to verify the file contains the sites you are looking for. We still need Firefox to read and decrypt the files. Alternately, an external tool like the following can read/export the files for reference (you need to point it at the folder where it can find them): Not sure whether Firefox can import from the output of either of those.

thanks a lot i solved using another computer with FF Password Exporter. now i have all the password on my Portable Firefox Thanks a lot.

Look for the folder that has these files; logins.json and key3.db [v58+]key4.db : These are the password files.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Note: Check with your IT before trying Firefox Portable.

You need logins.json and key4.db to transfer the logins. You can ope logins.json in a Firefox tab to see if this file contains the missing logins.

You should copy the files, NOT the directories. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile

thanks to be copied in this: C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile ?

i copied logins.json and key4.db in portable firefox in:

C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile

not a single password has been imported

If you look at logins.json in a tab in Firefox, does it list the sites you expect to be listed? The logins are encrypted using keys from the key4.db file, so it's normal for those details not to be readable.

how can i open the file in firefox?

Just drop the file onto an open tab, and Firefox should display the data in a structured JSON viewer.

Were there previously a logins.json and key4.db present in the portable profile folder ?

usernameField: "email" passwordField: "passwd" and username and passwords are encrypted

i found all the websites in the json file how do i decrypt them in order to obtain usernames and passwords?

That was just to verify the file contains the sites you are looking for. We still need Firefox to read and decrypt the files.

Alternately, an external tool like the following can read/export the files for reference (you need to point it at the folder where it can find them):

Not sure whether Firefox can import from the output of either of those.
