The new update has changed the way my homepage looks. I want it back the way it was with the same colors. The most important part, my shortcut squares are too small. I'm old and need them back to the size they were.

I can't find a way to make them larger. Can anyone help?

Firefox 89 switched the boxes from showing a mix of site icons and screen capture thumbnails to just icons. To switch back to the old style, you can make this change (appears to be removed in Firefox 94 beta):

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste newNew and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.newNewtabExperience.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false

That definitely changes the Top Sites back to the old style, but I don't know what else it changes.

Thank you, that certainly has helped but some of the screen captures have the icon in the lower right corner over top of them. It's messy looking and uncomfortable on my eyes.

What else that did, was put the little icons back in the "view history, saved bookmarks and more" drop down list.

Do you have any idea what the old colors were (I saw I could change those)? I tried switching the theme to System but it doesn't change at all. I need some contrast. (I tried the dark one and it was way too dark for me.)

I will try to work with this for a few days. If I feel too much stress or aggravation over the look of things, I will have to switch browsers. That makes me sad as I have used Firefox as my default for around 15 years.

Mine's always been like that. I've attached a snap from Firefox 60 as an example. I'm not aware of any setting to make that prettier.

I'm new to this Community. Is it at all likely that Firefox admin will come on and actually tell us how we can revert back to the old home page. I don't want to muck around with configurations and themes. I just want a choice to have the old size icons and text.

You don't need an admin, the answer was provided in an earlier reply...

Thanks to contributors for nice clear instructions to increase shortcuts size back to an almost readable size. Heres hoping we will soon be able to return them to the readable size they were previously. I dont understand why they would make such a change. very very frustrating trying to fix it, having to come to the help site and trawl through the questions to fix it is not very user friendly.

Note that it is likely that prefs that enable/disable a new design won't be there forever and as soon as new features are added or the devs decide to remove the old code then this workaround will no longer be possible, just like currently happens with browser.proton prefs.
