How do I put the 'text' from a document up on the screen so that I can read it?
I have been trying some Software that the PC user can use, to change a data file so that Firefox will show only the text that the data file contains. The data files that I have been working with are .doc, .docx, and .rtl(?) and have even tried .html. But so far I haven't found a format that seems to work with Firefox. Has any body any ideas? This area that I'm working in is rather new to me, and for that reason I seem to keep going around in circles.

Are you trying to modify a web page you are viewing in Firefox, or to load a file into Firefox from your PC?
The closest feature Firefox has to a "Text Only" view is the simplified Reader view. More info on Reader View in the following article: View web pages in Reader View.
But Reader View will show large images that are in the main body of an article, so it's not text-only.
By the way, Microsoft Word has a filter on its Open dialog that you might look at. Normally after you select Browse, the file type selector will say something like "All files" or "All Word Documents". If you change that to "Recover Text From Any File", then when Word open the document, it will extract and show you the text in a more or less unformatted dump. Is that what you need?
Since that setting can be sticky, if you open a document and it looks trashed, don't panic, close the document and when you return to the File Open dialog, change the filter back to one of the normal ones before opening the document.
I'm a PC user who tries to use this instrument to communicate with other people, I have been a Mozilla user for many years because I have gotten to know what to expect when I use one of their tools. But Mozilla is not a good instrument for writing letters. For doing that, I have chosen Jarte to help me do that job. And since more and more communications with me are over the Internet, I am trying to find a way to set these 3 up so that they work together as a 'team'. Unfortunately some of the people who use Computers are not honest, and for that reason people like me are penalized by the security that is being added to the s/w programs. And then, too, the developers have to live. Which means that sometimes they need some money to buy the things they need. I'm in the process of learning how to use these 3 'tools', so that I can cut down on doing the same task over and over again. And I have discovered that my biggest headache is the numerous ways that data can be saved. The last time that I counted, there were 25 different formats that I can use to store data on my PC. Unfortunately most creators of these s/w tools only tell the PC user what there 'tool' does. And all the negative attributes are not mentioned, unless asked. Right at the moment I'm trying to write an e-mail, and want to include some material that I have saved and stored on my PC. And have found, through trial and error, how difficult it is for me to use anything that has been created by the Acrobat Reader. So now I'm trying to find a 'format' that doesn't have so many built in roadblocks that are preventing me from using this saved data. Using Thunderbird, I have tried MS .doc and .docx. I have also tried using .html and naturally .rtl. I don't care what format my data is stored in. What I'm after is being able to recover this data of mine in a usable form, that allows me to copy it, and add it to my e-mail. Any suggestions that you may have would be greatly appreciated.
Do you want to copy/paste into the body of an email message, or is it an option to attach a document to the message that the recipient can open in the relevant application (such as Acrobat)?
If you have a PDF, especially if it is really a sequence of images and not text you can select and copy, your only option might be to attach the file. If you have an editable document such as a Word .doc/.docx/.rtf, then you can open it in an editor, select and copy, then paste into a message. Of course, there are formatting differences between Word and Thunderbird, so it may well look different.
In my digging it looks like Mozilla is playing games with my files that makes it hard for me to find what I'm looking for. I just 'saved' a file in the folder Windows 10 and Mozilla claims that this folder is MT!

What kind of file did you save, from what program?
Does MT mean empty? When you view a folder's contents using a dialog, make sure the filter is showing you the files you want to see, such as "All files (*.*)" to make sure files aren't being hidden in the dialog.
