Who if anyone can help me with Firefox deleting my info over and over again?

Firefox installs updates without my permission and then deletes everything - logins, cookies, bookmarks, view settings, all history.

Now this has happened 3 times in less than a month. And it seems to happen randomly. It is likely related to a new update. I get alerts for updates and this time when the alert pop up showed up I declined by clicking "not now". I had also changed my preferences to only install updates with my permission. That is ignored by Firefox. Instead this morning I walked away from my computer for a few minutes and when I returned every this was gone the "this is embarrassing" screen was there but the only restore choice was to "search Marquis".

There is some type of conflict going on and I can't figure it out. I am using a MacBook running 10.12.6 and I have used Firefox for years. The most recent change was to a different internet provider. But the problem with Firefox deleting my info started before that. Something seems to crash within Firefox and it may automatically restart and then install an new update that deletes everything. That is just my guess. I don't really understand a lot of this and don't want to spend hours learning about browsers. The last time it happened I spent a long time trying to follow the suggestions for getting my history and everything else back but none of that worked. So I've given up on retrieving anything and apparently even having a history because it's always going to be randomly delete by Firefox.

Maybe Firefox is not the right browser for me anymore? What are the requirements?

Thanks for any suggestions as to what might be causing this.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there? Also, open the profile folder in your file explorer.

Hello and thank you for your response.

I actually wrote you a whole response to your suggestions. However when I clicked on one of your links above Firefox deleted everything I wrote but saved the screen shot I was going to include. Why would someone write a program to work that way?

Just so you know everything you have suggested was suggested all the other times this happened. My issue is apparently not covered by any of the Firefox support articles - they only cover the simple kinds of problems. Firefox does not really provide support for more complicated issues, which seems to be how most computer programs and applications work these days. Maybe no one else has ever had this problem before.

There is no folder on my desktop called old Firefox and there never has been. This was suggested the last time.

Also suggested the last time was typing "about profiles" in the address bar. The result is what I am sending you with the attached screen shot. Only one profile. No old profile to go back to. (I hope the screen shot I attached is there. It did not show up when I previewed the reply)

You say to open the profile in my File Explorer. Well, as I had mentioned I use a MacBook so maybe it's different but I think file explorer is the same as what Macs call Finder. And when I open finder there is a list of files and folder and there is no old profile for me to revive. There is a corrupt file (places.sqlite.corrupt) from yesterday but the real question is what is corrupting my profile? I don't think there is anyone at Firefox that will answer that for me. All of the support seems to be for really simple things. I don't really want to spend hours and hours learning about how my browser works. If there is no way to get an answer to fix this then maybe I should try using a different browser.

I really appreciate you taking the time to offer suggestions.

Thank you.

Try backing up your present data, deleting Firefox (make sure nothing is left in the install folder), restart the PC, reinstall Firefox, then put back your data. Also check for any system corruption using commands like sfc/scanning
