How to make Firefox open new tab instead of new window when you double-click on it's desktop shortcut (while it's already running)

The gist of it is pretty much in the title. I often have Firefox minimized on one of my home computers. Another user, that also uses this computer instead of maximizing already minimized Firefox window usually double-clicks the Firefox desktop shortcut, which opens a new Firefox window and creates additional confusion for this not particularly savvy user (because the new window lacks previously opened tabs from another minimized window). So, is there a way to make Firefox open a new tab instead of a new window if Firefox is already running and someone double-clicks its desktop icon?
