Hi Myrnz, since you mentioned doing a Refresh yesterday, you probably have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on your Windows 7 desktop. Hang onto that in case we need you to look inside for some data files.

And regarding the timing: immediately after your Refresh, did Firefox have all your tabs and they got lost later, or were they got at that time?

Yes, I did find an 'old Firefox Data' folder in Desktop containing many, even hundreds of entries

Yes, immediately after the Refresh that I did about 21h30 on Wednesday evening, all the tabs were there. They were also there on Thursday morning when I opened the computer. It was after a Firefox update (that I don't think I initiated, that all the tabs disappeared. When I followed the Firefox/Mozilla instructions to restore them only one unfamiliar one (Enterprise) appeared.

So, my issue is not yet solved.

I had done something similar and only got one tab. Today I used your link and got the same result, but see as I scroll down the option og going into 'config' which looks promising, however I don't have time right now to do it. Thanks for your suggestion, but so far the issue is not resolved. Myrnz June 5m 09h45 EDT

Hi, absolutely agree that Firefox upgrade should not delete all the tabs that you have.

I can’t really think of any other practical way besides searching back your link from the history. I’m afraid you can’t really downgrade your iOS Firefox.

Do you remember part of the url? Domain name for example? That would ease a lot for the searching. The next time you find it, don’t forget to bookmark it, or keep inside Pocket.

Hi Myrnz, could you back up your existing session history files? Here's how:

Do not exit Firefox, or if you closed it, don't re-open it.

(1) To open your profile folder...

If Firefox is still running:

You can open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
• (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
• type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Open Folder" (or "Show in Finder") button.

If Firefox is closed:

Type or paste the following into the Windows Run dialog or the system search box and press Enter to launch Windows Explorer:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

In that folder, do you see a semi-randomly-named folder? If so, click into it. If you find multiple such folders, find the one that was most recently updated.

(2) Copy out session history files

In your profile folder, double-click into the sessionstore-backups folder. Save all files here to a safe location such as your Documents folder.

(3) What files did you find?

The kinds of files you may find among your sessionstore files are:

• recovery.jsonlz4: the windows and tabs in your currently live Firefox session (or, if Firefox crashed at the last shutdown and is still closed, your last session)
• recovery.baklz4: a backup copy of recovery.jsonlz4
• previous.jsonlz4: the windows and tabs in your last Firefox session
• upgrade.jsonlz4-build_id: the windows and tabs in the Firefox session that was live at the time of your last update

Could you take a look at what you have and the date/time of the various files to see whether you think any of them would have the missing tabs?

I have finally had the time and the courage to try your suggestions and I believe I have identified the file by following your instructions using the tool on your site to scrounge the files. The file is: File name: upgrade.jsonlz4-20200528194502; Size: 33324; last modified 2020-06-03, 9:54:08 p.m.

My next problem is that I don't know what to do with the file to get the tabs back. I'm not particularly interested the closed windows or back-forward history (unless you advise that I should be)...and I'm obviously not tech savvy! I really appreciate your assistance.

Hi Myrnz, since you presumably have been using Firefox during this time, you probably don't want to roll back all your current tabs to 10 days ago. I suggesting using the "Save List" button on the Scrounger page to create an HTML document (web page) of your session. Then you can open those tabs as needed any time you like without having to try to merge data from different times.

JScher2000 I saw your response about what to do with the file info I 'scrounged' and tried to follow it.

I hope I pushed the right button: I chose Scrounge URL's (which now reads 'processing') but I see no evidence of that. When I pushed the Save List button at the end of the line nothing happened, so my second choice was the Scrounge option.

The Fallback option gives you a huge dump of all the URLs without the clarity of which one was the active URL in a tab, so that is less useful for recovery.

I reloaded scrounge and dragged the file into it and pushed the Scrounge button. After a few seconds at the bottom of the page above the Copyright stuff was this: Session History

Maybe it is not relevant and I should have done something else. Since I can see the tabs I lost in the window at the top it feels so near and yet so far.

The page lists a bunch of tabs now? Click the Save List button to save the tab list in an HTML-format document (also known as a web page).

Then you can decide:

Do you just want to open selected tabs from the saved webpage as needed (easy), or

Do you want to try to convince Firefox to roll back to that session by substituting that file for your current one (slightly frustratingly more difficult than it needs to be)?

Thank you! Thank you! You have solved my issue with the missing tabs to my complete satisfaction. Your clarity, patience, persistence and commitment as a Volunteer with Mozilla are to be commended! As double insurance before closing down the computer, I sent myself the Scrounged version of the file by e-mail. I had manually entered a few URL's just to be sure. You cannot imagine my delight and surprise when I opened the e-mail and found all the links blue and live. What a gift!

Hope I never have to go though this again, but if I do, I'll have fond memories of the experience of working with you. It turns out that not only did I loose my Tabs on the update of around June 3, but also Zoom, Word, PowerPoint and one other vital tool. I was able to reinstall the Microsoft Office, get Zoom to work again and now I have my Tabs back. I'll try to find and reset the Firefox settings so they won't all disappear again when there is an update. I might also have to look at how I keep sites I'm interested in revisiting again and make some changes.

All this to say 'thank you' again and to observe how lucky the world is to have people like you in it. May you stay safe and healthy for years to come.

I'm not sure what happened to your computer two weeks ago; it's not like Windows 7 is getting the huge updates that Windows 10 is getting.
