How can I select the monitor to display maximized web videos?

I display Firefox on a large external monitor, but when I maximize a web video Firefox shifts to my MacBook Pro laptop screen. Firefox fills the screen, but only a portion of the video can be seen. Also, when I press ESC to exit the maximized video, Firefox shifts back to the external monitor but the window is quite small. This is a rather new situation. What I want is for web videos that are maximized to display on my external monitor and, upon exiting maximize mode, for Firefox to revert to the window size that existed before the web video was maximized.

Note that when I maximize the Firefox window (not the video maximize control) it performs properly. Also, I don't have any of these issues when using Safari.

Will appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks.
