How to stop the address bar from getting large and hiding parts of my favorites
I do not care for how the address bar swells in size. I find it annoying and not useful as I use a separate search bar which is the ONLY reason I use Firefox instead of Chrome. Please tell me how to revert back to the previous was this worked. This is one new feature that I find annoying as it hides part of the items underneath it.

Hello cjancola,
Just in case you don't want to add userChrome.css code,
and in addition to jscher2000's post :
This is a temporary fix, but I am optimistically hoping that they will give us the opportunity to permanently disable this new feature.
Would you do this please :
Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter. (ignore the warning)
Type in the search bar and look for the preference :
browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
and set its value to false
Do the same with these preferences :
browser.urlbar.update1 (already mentioned by jscher2000)
browser.urlbar.update1.interventions
browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips
Then close and restart Firefox.

Hi crankylandlord, did you already have a userChrome.css file and you were adding the new rules to that one? But while the old rules work, the new ones don't and so you get the enlarged bar any time the cursor goes into it? Or you didn't have rules before and this is your first time?

I think I figured out what's wrong. So I have made the chrome file folder now. How do I get the code in it?
OMG...I figured it out and got it done. Thank you.
Does not work for me. When you say download the code do you mean copy ALL of it and paste into a user Chrome css? If not what does download the code mean?
I have the user Chrome css file

That was for Firefox 75-76, not for Firefox 77.

That worked thanks. i had the user Chrome css i pasted your code in.
I can't post user Chrome css with the dot. It picks it up as a link
So while looking for a new browser just not update from 77 0 1 64 bit ?. I read these fixes won't work next time
I do not have top sites snippets or highlights. I like a plain minimalist home page

Before snippets were forced on people. Now you can opt out or in. Why can't FF do that with all changes ,let people choose to have it or not have it?

The restyling should work in Firefox 78-79, and if these specific rules don't work any more, surely the FirefoxCSS subreddit will be full of threads with fixes.

Support forum volunteers don't always have time to research "why" questions. If you find helpful answers in your searches, let us know.
BTW, an interesting change is coming in Firefox 78:
