Right clicking a link for a new tab or page will produce a new tab or page for a split second, then bring up the original page. I'm using Windows 10 and FF 70.0. Wireless mouse and laptop touch pad give same results. I've tried deleting and clean install, uninstalling and clean reinstall to no avail. Please advise if you can. Thanks

Is the new window or tab closing or is the problem that the focus is switching back to the source tab?

Tabs/Windows Closing

Do you use any supplemental popup blockers that might be a little overaggressive in closing new windows and tabs?

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

Any improvement?

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network.

[56+] Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. Look for Network. +++++++++++++++++++++ Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first try No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Your suggestion sounded good, but didn't work. My Firefox browser connects to the web, but will not open right clicked links in a new Tab or Window. I have to "Copy link location" and paste in a new T/W manually.

Chrome Browser fails the same as FF, but Edge and CCleaner browsers still open links in a new Tab or Window.

I like Firefox better than the other browsers, and would like to get the Right click working again. Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the lead and solution.

The Adaware Ad Blocker must have grown too aggressive on my Win 10 machine and caused the vanishing Tabs and Windows. Win 7 doesn't have the same issue, so I will leave it enabled on that happy, little box.

Thanks again for your insight.
